GEEK WEDDINGS?

any other nerdy folk here using their favorite fandom in their wedding? or reception? If so what are you doing to display your nerdy side?

my s.o, and I are cosplayers and historical reenactors, on top of everything else nerdy about us. so we chose to do a little mermaid wedding, with the guys wearing russian romanov military uniforms (prince erics wedding attire is based on it in the movie.) flower girl is tinkerbell. walking to flash gordon's wedding march by queen. little mermaid wedding cake, and a twin peaks red room grooms cake. guests are coming in steampunk, lolita, disney characters, and normal wedding attire. and some geeky wedding invites that proclaim it's wedding time! with ariel and eric on the cover drawn in adventure time style.

so yeah we went nerdy. and I want to hear other nerdy wedding ideas big and small. I can't be the only one on this site.

Re: GEEK WEDDINGS?

  • I didn't but I've seen some awesome ones come through this board...

From Harry Potter to Anime, Disney princesses to Video games! Its all been done on here at one point!

If you check out the stickies at the top, there is one where each person writes a little about their wedding, you'll likely see some awesome ideas on there from ladies who have done it :)
  • I'm going with a general 'geek' wedding. FI and I are both into videogames, and I am a cosplayer, so there are tons of things we want to incorperate into our wedding.

making the dress then? 3 in my cosplay group are getting married (one was proposed to at a con as sailor moon/tuxedo mask during a photoshoot so tons of epic pics). all making their dress but me. and i was going to then i found one i liked cheaper than fabric. XD so i bought.
  • we're more of science geeks. My fiance likes to play with lightning and high voltages.I'm a scientist and hardware hacker. So far the 'unity candle' is going to be 2 tesla coils. After that I'm not sure what else we'll incorporate.
  • My fiance and I are both medievalists, and he proposed as Faramir from Lord of the Rings (Eowyn and Faramir are my favourite love story from LOTR), so we are definitely going for a medieval theme.  I've given him full reign with his and his groomsmen's attire, so they will be wearing swords and they might be wearing armour of some sort (depending on what will be practical for a winter wedding).  We're incorporating a bunch of little things from the medieval period, like having a chess board for guests to play (it was a metaphor in the medieval period for the game of love) and I'm trying to get a blue wedding dress because that was the most common colour for medieval brides. I'm also thinking of doing something about the Order of the Garter, the oldest order in the medieval period which is still in existence today.
I want to see a Joss Weddon wedding though - that would be so sweet!
The Little Mermaid sounds awesome for a wedding.  Your pictures are going to be great!

I wish I was making my dress, however my mother paid for a dress for me. It saved me time and money so I can't complain.

  • I looked at offbeat bride. XD loved it. wanting to know if any geeks were also active on this site at all. since it's geared to more traditonal weddings.

i also want pics of the tesla coil!
  • I'm doing a Disney/Fantasy style wedding. My bridal party will be dressed similar to cartoon Gisele and my flower girls will be fairys. Can't forget the my ring bearers will be Princes. I'm getting the Cinderella dress from Alfred Angelo's Disney collection. My outdoor ceremony will be filled with lanterns and twinkling lights representing the fairies.

Each of my 15 tables is a disney couple. Each table will have a stack of books coordinating with the characters. So my Tarzan and Jane table have books about the jungle, while my Tiana and Naveen table has books about the start of jazz music and Louisana. Each table also has a single flower that goes with it as well as a paper lantern that has there table number on it.
Oh and our entrance song for the ceremony will be a choreographed number to the instrumental song from Tangled where she firsts goes into the castle.

    So excited!!
  • Omg I love you brides so much! I'm having a Doctor Who themed reception complete with fezes as the table number. I found lots of video game music and a way to get my dress custom without an arm and a leg. My man loves Doctor Who, and I want to make a tardis for him. :
In love since July 2010 with the man of my geeky dreams. I want to marry him by 2015. Ooooh weeee oooooh....

I am typing this at work on break, so, quickly. Sorry for length, punctuation, and spelling. LOL
We will be having the theme NERD, Never Ending Resolute Devotion.

We wanted to go full blown nerd, but, after talking to some close family that had no idea any of the topics we were talking about, decided on more well known "nerdy" things.

Bridesmaids in bright pink tutus and either bright green or pink corsets or cami and green flip flops, I'll be in a longer white tutu with white corset( all homemade by me, less than 15/piece per tutu and 8/corset),
groomsmen in black pants w bright green shirts and pink ties. It will all be in the officiant will be standing inside a Tardis(Dr Who) that my dad is building, and we will be walking into the Tardis to mix pink and green sand together(instead of lighting a candle).
Companion cube will be our card box

Thinking about decorations over the dance floor, but cant decide...

Each table has a theme(with a table exactly like it on the other side of room), with the theme-printed material as a table runner.

1)star wars(homemade r2d2-tiny trashcans painted up holding candles and star wars figures on the table),
2)avengers/marvel( all action figures placed around glowing cube holding flowers or candle)
    3) arcade( circular Pacman painted vases and Tetris blocks everywhere, surrounding candles )
4)Lego/kinex(random things built out of legos/kinex, also surrounding vase w candles),
5)Dr who(rectangular Tardis painted vases w bowties and sonic screwdrivers all over table)
    6) batman series(bat symbol painted on vases, masks lining the table, various batman enemies )
    7) zombie (brain looking matter surrounding vases, with blood splatter and fingers/toes covering tables)_My mom hates this one, she wants us to change it, so, we are trying to think of something different
    8) true blood/vampires(coffins holding candles and fake fangs, bottles of true blood, crosses, fake garlic cloves)
    9) harry potter(cauldrons holding candles and wands and spell books on table)
    10) Mario(square painted vases w ? On them, with Mario figures on tables)

Our tables will be Joker and Harley, to go with our signature cosplays...We have not figured out how we want to decorate them yet, they are becoming the biggest challenge lol

I'm walking down the aisle to star wars "a new hope"
walking out together to Mario theme song
Garter belt toss to true blood theme
Bouquet toss is to either walking dead theme or Sons of Anarchy theme, cannot decide

    Awesome ideas!

  • We're actually torn between a Batman theme wedding and a skull theme. Yep.

My fiance and I both LOVE Batman... in fact we both have bat symbol tattoos! He runs a comic book website and it's something really important to both of us. No matter what we end up doing, I am sure there will be some geeky elements sneaked in there. I've found some really cute Batman cake toppers too!

Either that or we will go with skulls, but like I said, there will be some bats in there no matter what (I'm thinking cufflinks, and small things like that).

It's so fun that way. I know my parents and probably some other family will say stuff like, "Batman, really?" But I don't care...it's not their wedding, its ours!

  • We're planning a geek wedding :)  Our main theme is Star Trek DS9, with the ceremony being similar to that of Worf and Dax in "You Are Cordially Invited."  The rest of the ceremony/reception, or party as we're calling it, will have various geeky themese like Dr. Who, Nintendo, Firefly, etc...  :)
