XP small reception questions

Our wedding is going to start at 3pm with "cutting of the cake to follow" is what I put on the invitations. we are doing a very small reception at our church that will include cutting the cake, having our first dance and trying to chat with as many guests as possible. I have two questions, 1.Is there something else we should include durring the reception? I don't want guests to get the impression that we are being rude, we just preffered something more short and simple. and 2. what could I have to keep the guests busy while the family is taking pictures? they can't cut the cake without us. Thanks!!!

Re: XP small reception questions

  • What about serving drinks and snacks while you take photos?

Or take photos before the ceremony.

  • Both are good ideas. I thought about having some light finger foods to keep them busy.
  • How long is you reception going to be?  Could you do:
    Ceremony
    Reception (Cake cutting/refreshments/visit with guests)
    Photos

Will there be assigned tables for guests to sit and eat cake or just chairs for everyone to sit / guests will eat cake in the pews?
If you  have tables, I'd actually vote table visits over receiving line. Then you could go straight to pictures and you could mingle and thank guests while they're eating cake. Otherwise it's just more time some guests have to wait you.

Any chance speakers can be set up and an ipod can play some music? I guess there wouldn't be a place to dance but it would make for more atmosphere at least.
  • Board games, cards, snacks, refreshments...
  • I'm guessing this reception is only lasting 2 hours max?  I don't think you really need to add anything but light snacks.  Lemonade, water, & tea with maybe a veggie tray, fruit tray, cheese & cracker tray would be easy and appreciated.

<div>Will your church allow you to have drinks?  Your Reception Card wording could be ...</div><div>"Please join us for Cake & Cocktails immediately following the ceremony" or something along those lines.  (or Dessert & Drinks if it does not)</div><div>
</div><div>A few activities, that you can DIY (scavenger hunt, guest book alternatives, iSpy, quizzes) should keep them busy.  You can even set up your own photobooth backdrop (there are plenty of DIY / cheap alternatives) with some free printable props to let them have some fun photos of their own.  (I also like the thought of a receiving line.)</div><div>
</div><div>But yes, even if you're not doing a full-on meal, and even if it's only for an hour or two, please have something other than cake, even the smallest of finger food will go a long way.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>
