Exercise and points

I am on weight watchers and doing a lot of exercise. Like one hour of intense cardio and weight lifting after. According to the points calculator I burn 16 points. My weight watchers team leader said I should eat more since I am burning so much. How many of the points should I eat? I would ask the leader but he is very self absorbed. He has a few favorites and pretty much talks about them and the fun they have together during the meeting. I can only go that day due to work. He really agitates me. But how many do you think I should eat? I get already 30 points...

Re: Exercise and points

  • To start, are you REALLY doing an hour of intense cardio and then lifting?  Intense means you're unable to speak, and you're going balls to the wall, dripping sweat, for the majority of the session.  Most people (especially with WW) overestimate the intensity of their exercise.  I could NOT lift after an hour of intense cardio.  I'm ready to drop after 40 minutes of Insanity, which is intense cardio.

Anyway, I'd try eating back maybe half or so to start.  If you gain or don't lose, cut that in half.  If you lose too fast eat some more.

The rule of thumb I've always heard was if you earn more than 5 a day, you need to eat back some of them.

  • I agree with PP... I have done WW on and off for 5ish years and have lost a lot of weight.  The thing about the program is that you need to figure out what works for you.  I work out a lot and don't think I've ever earned 16 APs.  I definitely would not eat 16 extra points a day to make up for the activity.  Try and eat some of them and play around with it to see what works for you!
  • What I do is a half hour of intense cardio like first pp said heart rate around 160-170. Then I do 15 -25 minutes of weight lifting. After I do another cArdio session. So according to my weight that's how much I burn. But I did look up the definitions of high low intensity. I love working out and I am very competative. But I will try extra 5-10 more points
