Timing of spray tan/waxing for DW brides

Morning Girls!  Nothing like starting off our week talking about hair removal.  LOL.

I have a question for you ladies.  For those of you who are planning on either spray tanning, waxing, or both, before you leave for your big day, what is your plan as far as timing?

I think I should wax BEFORE the tan, but I'm not sure how many days recovery to give myself.  I was going to ask this on the Beauty board but thought I might get answers here too.

Also curious how many days ahead of time you're planning on doing these activities.  Thanks!

Re: Timing of spray tan/waxing for DW brides

  • I'm not doing Spray tan as I'm doing tanning beds...  Spray tan and the chlorine from pools together have always scared me...

I'm still debating if I'm going to wax, but if I do I was going to go the Monday before we leave.. we leave on Wednesday...

  • I have what may be a "dilemma" since I will arrive in Jamaica a full 7 days prior to my wedding day.  I leave Saturday to Jamaica so I will be getting waxed Friday and will cross my fingers that it last at least one week!  with tanning, i am going to try and limit my sun exposure in those 7 days before the ceremony (sunblock, hats, beach umbrellas) b/c i can get super super dark and don't want to be burnt to a crisp in my wedding photos! lol!

  • I didnt spray tan because like pp I was unsure what would happen with the chlorine or the salt water. I used tanning beds the month before the wedding then tried to hide from the sun (SPF 70 and applied every two hours) and wore bandeau bathing suit tops (Victoria's secret) before the wedding, we were there 5 days before the ceremony and didn't want to get burned but still wanted colour that's why we tabbed (yup the hubby joined me!) I suggest starting Brazilian waxing 3-4 months before the wedding and I did my final wax two days before we left for our trip and I was hair free the entire time! It's not as scary as it sounds and it's actually something I'll continue to do until I can afford laser hair removal!

  • I just started tanning. I hate spray tanning and it doesn't protect you from burning. We leave a week before our wedding so my last day of tanning will be 4 days before we leave. 2 days before we leave I will be doing my waxing and last facial with microderm. I would tan up until we are leaving, but can't with the microderm. Once we get to Maui, I'm going to be really careful with my sun exposure and make sure to apply the sunscreen. I'll have such a good base tan by then, I think I will be fine.
  • Yeah, I am just one of those super scared people when it comes to skin cancer.  Too many people I know have had issues with it, so I really try to avoid the sun at all costs.  I want to have some type of glow though in my pictures, rather than looking like a ghost.

I think I'm going to try spray tanning this week to test it out & see how long it lasts.  And most importantly, to make sure my skin doesn't react poorly to it.

    Thanks for the advice!
  • I waxed/spray tanned for a wedding in FL last month and it worked fine.  I waxed Thursday night and got an airbursh tan on Friday

To clarify, I  highly reccomend getting an air brush tan vs. spray tan.  This is done be a live human being (awkward, yes) but unlike a machine you will not have any missed spots, streaks, ext.  An air brush tan is going to be more expensive than a booth spray tan, but for your wedding it is absolutely worth the extra cash!

Also- I would stop shaving and do 2-3 waxings.  Because of different growth patterns 2-3 waxings with no shaving in-between will help you have a longer lasting and cleaner wax.
  • Thanks for the waxing advice!  I used to go regularly but then it just got too expensive so I really space out when i get waxed (special occasions) and didn't realize results can last longer if you go regularly :-)  i will start in Oct or Nov for my wedding in Feb.
