Interesting. I'm looking into a brunch reception as well. How would your doughnut cake look or should I say how do you envision it to look?

my idea was instead of cake teirs they would be stacks of donuts. there aren't any pictures so i can't show one. but they would be cake shaped. i was thinking glazed donuts, but i was told by the person doing my cake that powdered would look good, seeing as it's white.

I'm sort of on the fence. On the one hand, I hate donuts so I wouldn't be happy about donuts instead of cake.

On the other hand, I might be a bit of an oddity. I think most people like donuts. So it's probably a good idea that would work out well.

Sounds yummy. I've never seen one done before but it sounds like it could be cute?

I saw a picture of this a while ago.  I think it was Krispy Kreme donuts, and there was baby's breath scattered on the layers.  If you google "donut wedding cake," you get lots of photos.  There are some that are stacks of donuts, and others that are on tiered stands.  I think either would be nice, and you might consider how you want to decorate it to see which way would work better.

that's unique! those pictures are awesome! i haven't experience attending to a wedding reception with a donut wedding cake! i think it would be memorable!
  • Personally I would avoid powdered donuts because I would be covered in powder, not a good look on me! It sounds like it goes with your theme, and it is different.

  • That's certainly unique but, and please don't hate me, the first thing I thought of when I read your post title was Homer Simpson.

But then I read through it and I think it's great! A really unusual idea that will have people talking about it for a long time. And I agree with the powdered doughnut idea - but then, those are my favorite, so perhaps I'm biased!
  • very unique :) i like it personally.. im doing a cupcake tower so i like things that aren't the traditional wedding cake.

  • My brother and SIL had one at their wedding (in addition to a small regular cake) and it was adorable! Everybody loved it!
  • Love it! You could use either traditional round donuts, donut holes, or a combination of both. The only reason I suggest donut holes is that some people (including myself) can't eat an entire donut.
  • I think it sounds like a great idea!
  • LOVE THE IDEA! Do it :-) If I were having a morning wedding I would totally consider this!
  • I think that would be cute! It makes sense since it's a breakfast buffet. Just make sure that you won't regret it later on. You don't want to look back on your wedding day and wish that you would have had an actual wedding cake. Plus, it needs to fit the feel of your wedding, especially if the feel is more formal.  In my opinion though, as long as it looks nice and put together, I don't see any problem with doing a cake made of donuts.
  • I like the idea though maybe you could offer up something else on the side line if possible. I've seen cookies formed into towers to take place of the cake so this shouldn't be too complex. Go for it if the idea makes you happy! :)
