Bridesmaid hair situation

My hairstylist requires a three person minimum. I'm not paying for my bridesmaid's to have their hair done (I don't care what they do or don't do to their hair), but one of my bridesmaids tld me she wanted to pay to have hers done, so I booked a stylist with a three person minumum (it'll be me, my mom, and bridesmaid). Now my bridesmaid is telling me that she doesn't want to have her hair done anymore, which means I can either pay for her or lose my deposit with my current stylist and book another. I really don't want to book someone else because time is running out and my second and third choice hairdresses are already booked. Any ideas on what I should do? I guess I could pay for my bridesmaid, but I'm worried that is unfair since I'm not paying for the others.

Re: Bridesmaid hair situation

  • I've never heard of a stylist requiring that a certain # of people are getting their hair done. I don't see why she can't do your hair, your mom's, and then schedule a haircut or something in that other time slot? If she won't budge, maybe offer for MOG to join you?
    Praying for a miracle!
  • Do you have a FMIL, sister, grandma, aunt who may want to join you and your mother?

I'd agree you shouldn't pay for your one bridesmaid out of fairness for the others.

Quite honestly, I've never heard of a hairstylist having a "minimum" number of persons. Worst case scenario, you just pay for the "empty" appointment, I guess.

Maybe offer the spot to your other bridesmaids and see if anyone is interested.   If you are running out of time, and you are worried about paying for one and not the others, I'd say just pay for the third spot, but just don't use it.  Just because you PAY for a third spot, doesn't mean they actually have to do the hair for that person.  As long as they get paid, they aren't going to care.

Every single "on location" hair and makeup person in my area had a minimum.  If we went to their salon, no minimums, but if they came to us, all had a minimum.  They didn't want to lose a Saturday wedding date if it was just one or two people.

    Same in my area.

It isn't cost effective to have a sylist travel to a location to do hair for one or two people.  That is why they require a minimum.  I am guessing the minimum that OP stylist set allows for her to actaully make a profit.

  • Yeah, I don't think it's unusual. I would pay for the service to keep your spot, but don't tip on that %. If she only does 2 and gets paid for 3, she's still coming out on top.
  • Could you send an email out to all of your BM, saying that I have a hairstylish coming to us on the morning of the wedding.  It costs x for her to do your hair.  Please let me know if you are interested in using her services.  That way, you aren't demanding your BM get their hair done professionally, but you could have another BM take that spot.  I'm assuming that your hair stylish would stay for more than 3 hair styles?  Or could you ask FMIL?

This is what I did originally and only the girl that is backing out wanted to get her done. Everyone else already has appointments with their own stylist :(
  • Ask a grandma, mother of groom, etc.  I'm sure someone wouldn't mind getting their hair done.

<div>We don't have grandmothers and the mother of the groom already booked her appointment elsewhere :( I guess I'll just pay for an unused spot. </div>
  • Aunts? Readers? Flower girl?
Either way it sounds like you will eat the cost.  I would keep the time slots as is so that just in case another bridesmaid's (or FMIL etc) stylist cancels, she can fill the empty slot if she wants to.

Same here.  My BMs all wanted to get their hair done even though I told them they didn't have to.  My cousin did my hair, so my MOH scheduled a stylist to come to the hotel.  It wasn't a problem with the minimum until my 3rd BM dropped out the week before our wedding.  The stylist was saying she wouldn't drive all the way down/not work that morning for just two of them.

OP, I would start by asking your mom, grandma, other BMs if they want their hair done.  I was prepared to eat the cost of the third style, because for me, it was important to have my BMs get ready with me (if they had to drive to the salon, they would have left at 7 to come back around 11).

  • This is going to sound a little strange, but is there any way she could work on the guys? My stylist is technically trained as a barber, so she can do shaves and things. A hot shave might be a nice gift for your groom.

Oooh, ok, that makes sense. I didn't see in the OP where it says it's an on location stylist.
