Choosing places to register at...

I would love to register at Crate and Barrel because they have somethings I absolutely ador.  However, the closest C&B is in Chicago, over 100 miles away from many of our wedding guests.  I know that shopping online is very common and all but is it tacky to register at a place that many of our guests will only have access to online?

Re: Choosing places to register at...

  • That's fine, but I would also try to register at a store that most of your guests will have access to in person.
  • I'm sure some of your guests won't mind accessing the online registry for their options since I'm pretty sure they ship and it will save you the trouble of lugging them home after the shower/party/wedding.

Local stores should definitely be on the list since some guests absolutely like a personal touch and going into the store to make the purchase is just for them. Uncle Tony and Uncle Bobby are like that and think the internet is evil (they're both 78 and 80) so they preferred to go to the store and gave us a cash gift as well.

  • That's totally fine! I registered at C&B even though only some of our guests have one locally. I registered at another store that every guest will have access to, and people can always shop online if they choose.

Just add something local and you're good!
  • It's fine, I'd just have a local store like PPs have suggested.  A lot of people are fine with ordering online, but some people still aren't on board with that.

  • It's not a problem.  A lot of guests prefer online shopping even if they do have local stores because then the store wraps and ships it for you and it saves the guest the trouble of having to do it all themselves.  I do think you need at least 1 local store like PPs said.  If you have guests all over the country like I do, then that might mean you register at one or two extra places than you would necessarily prefer, but out of convenience and respect for your guests, every major pocket of guests should have at least the option of physically shopping for you.

  • I agree with having a local store like Target as well. I personally prefer shopping in person (plus Target is cheaper!).
