Healthy Meal/Snack Ideas needed

Does anyone have any healthy snack and meal ideas they are willing to share.  I have to pack a lunch on a daily basis as I live an hour from where I work and am looking for something different to pack.  I want something that is healthy as I am currently trying to lose 20-30 pounds for my June wedding.

Thanks!
Anniversary

Re: Healthy Meal/Snack Ideas needed

  • At the beginning of the week I bring all of this to work to hold me over for 5 weekdays (When I tried to bring it each day, I always managed to forget something!)

5 Greek Yogurts and bag of flaxseed
    5 Steel Cut Oats/Blueberries/Walnuts (I pre-make them on Sunday)
    5 Apples
Enough for 5 days of salad (Spinach, Red Pepper, Black Beans, Avocado, oliveoil)
A bag of Frozen dark Cherries (I thaw them out for about 30 min and they are great!)

All of that gets me by until when I leave for dinner. I change it up a little every week, but you get the idea. I try to eat as natural as possible during the day and then eat a normal dinner (fiance does not want to be on my diet!). It's a slower weight loss, about a pound a week, but I am never hungry! I love to eat constantly, rather than waiting a few hours between each meal, so this is what works for me.

    Other ideas:

Sweet potatoes, homeade soup, Wasa Crackers with Almond Butter, Hummus
  • I rotate between cheese sticks, peanut butter crackers, greek yogurt with honey, nuts, and my homemade trail mix (granola, popcorn, nuts)
  • I try to take fresh fruit like apples, oranges, grapes, or bananas or a greek yogurt for my morning snack. For lunches I pack a salad with tuna or chicken on it or I may have a Progressive soup, they have a lot of good ones that are low in calories. I may even take tuna salad or a packaged meal once in awhile. I combine that with some fresh veggies like celery or carrots for lunch. I may even have some wheat thins, depending on what I pack. I also try to keep at my desk some 100 calorie snacks, granola bars, or Emerald mixed nuts. This helps keep me from hitting the vending machine.
I try to pack my lunches the night before work so I don't have to rush in the morning. I onften wish I could pack them for the whole week, just I just don't have the room in my frig, but that would make life so much easier during the week. lol
  • I eat one Kelloggs strawberry bar that has 90 calories for my snack (:

  • My favorite workday snacks are:
celery with peanut butter or hummus
    1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese
    cup of Greek yogurt
carrot sticks with peanut butter or hummus
1/2 cup to 3/4 cup peeled edamame, thawed and lightly salted

One in the morning before lunch, and one in the afternoon after lunch :)
  • Nuts are a great snack, and they help fill you up.  Raw almonds are very good for you.  I also like greek yogurt, apples, veggies and hummus and hard boiled eggs. Just try to stay away as much as possible from proccesed junk and you will be in good shape.

Along with the snacks mentioned previously (fruit, trail mix, etc), I like to try mixing it up with these snacks as well:

    - apple slices with string cheese (I usually have this as my mid-morning snack)
    - celery sticks w/Laughing Cow cheese
    - plain almonds (these are great pre-run, since they don't upset my stomach)
    - carrot sticks or sliced bell pepper w/hummus or guacamole (Wholly Guacamole has travel pouches that are delicious)

One of my favorite healthy meals to make is Weight Watchers' version of chicken pot pie. Link: http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=135821

It's very satisfying, packs well for lunches, and I love that it's a somewhat healthy comfort food. In fact, I'm going to be making it sometime this week.
