July 2012 Weddings

Really surprising news!

My FI and I had a phone meeting with the Reverend at the church we are getting married last night. He is a new Reverend at this church so we actually haven't met him in person yet. It went well; he is very laid back and things seem to be falling into place.

Then at the end of the call he said, "Oh and you should be happy to know that one of my first orders of business since I joined the church was to reevaluate our wedding fees. We have decided to lower the fees by $1000, so your balance is significantly lower now."

So, the fees were $2500 (and we already paid a $500 deposit) and now we only have to pay another $1000 instead of $2000. I know that is still more than most of your ceremony fees, but I'm just happy to have something cost LESS than we were planning for (which hasn't really happened with anything else wedding related). Woohoo!!

Re: Really surprising news!

  • That's awesome news! That is also a lot of money for a church, is it a large, beautiful church that is in-demand for weddings?

    Anniversary
  • Well at least it is less!  That is always good news!
    Anniversary
  • That is great news Bmore! But I agree, even the lower price is crazy expensive! It must be a beautiful church :)

  • That is really good news!  How nice that they are changing the price for those who already booked too and not just changing it for future weddings!  WooHoo!  $1000 is a lot to save!

  • woah!!! that is A LOT for the church!!!  is it normally like that in your area?? crazy!!
  • That is so exciting! Our fees are similar to what yours were - it's typical in larger churches, I think. They charge it because they can . . .

  • Yeah, I thought $2500 was a lot, but we wanted a big, historic church in a (relatively) big city, so those are the rates they charge and you can't really negotiate. We were just surprised that they honored the lower rate for us, even though we already agreed to pay more!

That's exactly what I told my FI after we hung up the phone with the Reverend! We definitely aren't going to use the $1000 to upgrade anything else - just make some of our remaining payments less painful.
