Marriage License Online

I noticed as of Jan 1, 2012 you can apply for a Hawaii marriage license online: http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/marriage/index.html

However there isn't much info about the process and on the online application page it says "In applying for a marriage license, both the prospective groom (male) and bride (female) must appear in person before a marriage license agent."

So I don't know if I should apply online or in person like I had originally planned. Any thoughts?

Re: Marriage License Online

  • When we went to our appt there was s ton of just administrative paperwork, putting the right info into various forms, etc. Perhaps you can now fill out that paperwork online, but still need to be in person with proof of ID to receive the license and verify identity?

  • We filled out our license ahead of time but still had to meet with someone to verify our information and to sign the application in front of them.  Then they printed out the official certificate for us to take to our officiant.

  • We completed ours and printed it out to take to the license office. Then we met with the specialist to go over the form, swear and sign in front of her. She provided us with a copy for our minister. Pretty easy process. They also have forms there at the office, you can fill out. But having it ahead of time helped speed up the process.
