Dress Help!!

Hi Ladies,I've been MIA from TK for a very long time since I've been busy with school, but now I have a month off from classes I'm on wedding mode and need some advice. I've been looking around for a dress, their either way out of my budget or just not the one, plus I don't live in a big city so I don't have too many places to chose from. I was looking through Etsy the other day and started thinking if it would be to risky to have it made through an Etsy vendor. Have anyone on this board done this before? Can anyone recommend any vendors?

This is the dress I want made http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_return.jsp?search=trish

Re: Dress Help!!

  • That dress is great. I really like it. I wish you well with your search.

I have had excellent interactions with every vendor I've used on Etsy--but have never bought anything that big or with that level of detail.

One of my biggest purchases there so far was my crinoline, which is well constructed, exactly to my specs and colors, and exactly as it was shown. My vendor is here, and the dress in this photo looks very much like my dress.

I bought my dress from Light In the Box--you might look at their tea and knee length ones if you have budget issues. Some of them remind me of that--but none a total match.

  • I have gotten things custom made on etsy before. Nothing as intricate as a wedding dress. But it has all been a wonderful experience. Have you noticed the Alchemy feature? What you do is create a post that includes eexactly what you want  with inspiration pictures, material ideas, a budget, etc. Then sellers on etsy bid to you for the chance to design and create it. Some send sketches, some reference past work, and they let you know if that budget is doable. I had a pretty fairly complex halloween costume made that way for me. You get some really interesting ideas.  Then after you get bids, and you still want to move ahead, you work with the seller you choose and make it happen. It's a fabulous tool.

I bought a wedding dress that a seller procured from a bridal shop that had gone out of business. It is a style that is no longer available, and it was a sample dress that didn't even look like it had ever been tried on. The only thing it needs is to be cleaned and pressed (which any dress would). Her customer service was fabulous and I cannot say enough good things about her.

She specializes in vintage dresses, and often repairs and embellishes the pieces she finds.

You may be able to find something similar, rather than having a seller copy that particular style and having it custom made. (Also would be cheaper that way)
