NJ bride needs budget Honeymoon - Need all inclusive Island getaway HELP

Hi-

My fiancé are in desperate need of an island get away for our honeymoon. We are getting married February 23, 2013 and would like to leave for our honeymoon soon after the wedding.  Right now we are thinking Aruba or Jamaica, but honestly I don’t have any island experience.  Is the weather nice on the islands in February? (that might be a dumb question) We both have passports so that is not an issue. What we are really looking for is something all inclusive for at least 6 days. I have a budget of around $3,000-$3,500 for the both of us, is that going to be possible? Would it be best to book myself online or check out a Liberty type travel agency?  Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you from NJ!!

Laura

With a limited budget, the Dominican Republic is a good option. I've stayed in Puerta Plata, but heard good things about P*nta Cana as well. Jamaica or Mexico will also probably work. I'm pretty sure that Fiji, Hawaii, and Aruba will be out of your budget.

I haven't been to the Carribbean in February, but it's really nice March, which I'd imagine is similar.

    Good luck!

H and I just planned a trip for our anniversary in November.  We had a similar budget and looked into Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Mexico.  All had reasonable options.  We ended up with Jamaica because the flights were cheapest and we could stay at a nicer resort.  We booked through Costco because they had better pricing than doing it on our own, but booked our flights separate because Costco doesn't work with all airline carriers.
  • dont believe there are AIs in HI or fiji.

february is high season in the caribbean. it wouldn't hurt to ask a TA to price something out for you. you do have the option to not purchase it.

and do your own research. allinclusiveoutlet.com and other sites have AI options.

Check out Groupon Getaways, saw two awesome deals today for all-inclusive. One in St. Lucia (which I've heard good things about!) the other at the Wyndham in the Domincan Replublic for 5 or 7 nights.
  • We went to Cancun Mexico in February of this year for our honeymoon and stayed at the Royal. We LOVED it and had a great time! We paid around 4K for 7 nights, an upgraded room, but we really booked last minute...Prices are higher the end of February so I would suggest not waiting too long to book. We used beachbumvacation.com. The "in-person" travel agents I visited weren't half as helpful, especially Liberty Travel Agency. Good luck whatever you decide.

  • We are going to a couples resort (all inclusive) for 10 days in March of 2013.  It ended up being $3K for the both of us with a $300 resort credit.  Also, with the couples resorts more excursions are included than other all inclusive resorts.  We haven't booked airfare yet, but we live in Atlanta and we have plenty of flight options available to Jamaica.  We used a travel agent who ended up getting us an even better than advertised deal on our trip...so I highly recommend using one.  Good luck and enjoy!
  • In terms of flights, sometimes JFK can be cheaper than Newark or LaGuardia. Though if its a hassle getting there than maybe its worth the extra expense. But can't hurt to play with all three airports and see what you come up with.

P*nta Cana in Dominican Republic is nice.  Jamaica or Bahamas are also nice.  I would rec'd the all inclusive so that you dont have to worry about expenses when you're there; unless you want to do a tour/ excursion.
I've been to all 3 but not in Feb/March.  I would think that it'll be nice since it wont be anywhere near the hurricane season.
We booked our Jamaica trip with Liberty Travel but the other ones we booked on our own after doing some research and monitoring the prices.
Those 3 places should fit nicely in your budget for a good resort.

For our honeymoon, we booked on our own.

  • Febuary is a great time for the caribbean. It is also the most expensive. If you book your flights early you should be able to go on your budget. I do not recommend the Bahamas, PR or Cancun. If you are close to Philadelphia, you can fly non stop to Aruba.Do your own research and go to AAA Don't forget 'Apple' tours because you might be able to get a nice package deal there.
