Getting in Shape

New here and venting

Hi Everyone,
So Im getting married in April 2013 and still have such a long list of things to do as our planning was put on hold and has just started up. One of those things is to lose some weight (around 15lbs min) to feel comfortable again with my body. Ive always had issues with my weight because of a hormonal imbalance but now when I want to start going to try on dresses I feel that the styles I like will not work because I may look heavier then I really am. I know I cant wait to much longer to go find my dress but I am determined to try to lose that weight by the end of the year (if possible). The problem with my schedule right now is that Im going to school in the morning and in the evening and working in between so that leaves me with the weekend to try to work out (or at least till the end of summer when my schedule switches) So Im hoping that I'll be able to find some great support and advice from all you ladies on here so we can all reach our goals.
Best luck to all!

  • Goodluck reaching your goal! And remember, there's always time for getting healthier....even if it's just choosing to take the stairs versus an elevator, or parking further away. You can also focus on eating better, which is a huge part of losing weight and being healthy.

  • Hi!  I just wanted to say one thing.  I bought my dress on January 2nd, after the holidays and the endless eating!  I was at my heaviest actually but I still went dress shopping (mostly because I heard about a sale) and got my dress.  Wedding dresses look gorgeous on everyone!  Since getting my dress I've lost about 10 lbs and want to lose another 10lbs before the wedding, but when I had my try on in May, it was so nice seeing the dress look nicer on me... so don't let weight be in an issue when you're looking for a dress!  There is still SO much time to start and get healthy and fit before your big day!
  • I had only lost about 5lbs when I went to look at dresses. I was devastated and cried the entire night before I went because I was so unhappy with how I looked and thought I could never find something. I went dress shopping the next day and I did find my dress. And I've lost an additional 25 lbs since then. So don't beat yourself up too bad! You can find a dress and still lose after the fact. Like Entropic said, plenty of time to get healthy. One thing to keep in mind when looking at dresses are lace up/corset backs are more forgiving and easier to deal with if you gain or lose weight. Good luck!

  • I second the notion of corset backs!! I'm having one put in my dress because i felt too confined with a zipper, and they just help mold the dress to you :)  best of luck with your goal! You can do it! :)

You can lose the weight sustainably in that amount of time. How great that you're planning ahead! Remember, weight loss isn't just about working out...much of it is the food choices you make every day. To lose one pound a week (3500 calories), we recomend that clients reduce their calorie intake by 250 calories each day and work out to burn 250 calories every day. That's a 500 calorie reduction total each day.

It sounds like you won't have the chance to work out every day (and if you are, remember to take rest days for your body!), so maybe it's time to take a look at your food and beverage intake. Start small. Change beverages to water. Eat breakfast and have small snacks. Try to have one more serving of fruit or veggies each day.

You can do it! Good luck.

yes to this!  I did that this summer and instead of gaining all 10lbs back on my month fast food splurge I only gained half which I credit to just being slightly more active.  healthy eating is definitely a big part of it.  You can work out all you want but a Big Mac is still more calories than I need.
