need help with restoring my wedding cake topper

Ok, so before my grandma passed away she gave me her wedding cake topper from her wedding back in '49. It is incredibly meaningful to me to use this as my wedding cake topper. However, it is metal. Pretty tarnished/dirty/ect which ever you choose to describe it. It is in great condition, but really needs restoring/polishing. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions on where I can take this to be restored or how I can do this?

  • Is it just tarnished?  If so, you might be able to clean it up with a polishing cloth (you can usually find those at WalMart, bundled with jewelry cleaner).

If it's silver and it's tarnished, then use a good silver polish.  DO NOT use Tarn-X, it will strip off all the patina.

If it's not silver, try taking it to a store that sells better quality home goods in silver, pewter, etc.  They may be able to help you.
