Drinks pre ceremony?

We are getting married outdoors in June by the water, and I thought it might be nice to have a drink offered to our guests as they arrive for the ceremony, especially if it's hot. I asked our venue, and she said it was possible, however, they have never had that request before. My dilemma came up when I pondered what people were to do with the glasses once they were done, especially if they took them to their seats? And whether the drinks would attract bugs? I have a cousin who got married a few years ago by the water, and everyone still talks about what a disaster it was.....no drinks, not even water, no chairs, and biting bugs for hours, and she was late by a few hours.  I certainly don't plan on a repeat of that, but am not sure if this is a good idea or not. We were thinking of a flavored tea or lemonade......anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?
Thanks.

<div>My venue provided a water cooler and cups.  I think they were nice clear plastic and there was a garbage can next to the water station...  I honestly don't remember the details, just that the venue provided water.  </div><div>

We married at an outdoor venue last July. Water and lemonade was available for guests.
  • We are offering up water bottles with custom labels.
  • We had a bucket of water bottles at the end of each aisle. I've been to weddings where I held a cocktail during the ceremony, and that was pretty nice too :)
  • I like the idea of drinks. How about just doing disposible cups, instead of glasses, so that they can throw them away? I think that it's fine to be a bit informal for that part of the wedding. If you must have glasses though, I just don't think bugs being attracted to the glasses will be that big of a deal. People will be paying too much attention to your ceremony for them to notice. But if you're still concerned about that, I would just stick to water. The whole point is to keep your guests hydrated, not to appease their taste buds. That's for later on in the wedding. :-)
  • Wate and iced tea or lemonade would be nice.  I think a station with coolers, disposable cups, and a small trash can would be fine.   Water bottles in small ice buckets at the end of each aisle would also work really well:-)  You can get inexpensive water bottles at Sams/Costco, or even places like Wallgreens on super-sale.

  • We will have water, ice tea and lemonade available for everyone as well as the "bar" (a table with the booze in our backyard) open and will be mingling with people before the ceremony starts. It's a casual ceremony and no real processional, so for us it works. I assume people will just hang on to their drinks because the ceremony is about 10 minutes long.

We're actually knocking around the idea of having the officiant (FI's friend) propose at toast to "Mr. and Mrs." at the end rather than doing the standard "it's my pleasure to introduce...." that way everyone is toasting/drinking instead of clapping while we kiss because the applause thing just seems weird to me, although I can't explain why and it doesn't seem odd when I see it at other weddings.
