Diet Plans??

I have 4 months to lose about 20pounds mostly in the belly area.  I have a hard time dieting unless the plan tells me exactly what to eat.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a succesful plan?

  • If you join SparkPeople (a free tracking site) it will give you meal suggestions with recipes for each meal of the day if you want it.

  • Weight Watchers.  It really works and combined with exercise, you really see results.
  • The 17 day diet is great. Every 17 days you eat something different and it tells you exactly what you can and cannot eat. I lost 4 pounds the first week, which is actually low for this "diet". I don't really feel like its a diet, its just making me eat more healthy.

I tried this diet for about 10 days and it was so ridiculously restrictive that I couldn't stick with it. And it is not 17 days - it is 3 cycles of 17 day periods. The first cycle I was starving and had no energy that I couldn't even exercise. I don't believe it is healthy because it cuts out so many necessary foods. I have since smartened up and realized there is no "diet" that will do what healthy eating does. I have lost 27 lbs through eating right, eating less, and working out.

Like J&K said join something like spark people or myfitnesspal to help you track your calories, diet, and exercise.

    Good luck!

  • I am on the South Beach Diet....I was on it a few years ago and lost 25 pounds in 2 1/2 months...but that was also with daily cardio. I swear by this diet. And its more of a lifestyle change than anything else. The first two weeks can be tough...no fruit, no pasta, no bread, no rice. Breakfast is scrambled eggs with veggies and lean meat, snacks are before lunch and before dinner, lunch is always a salad with a lean meat, and dinner is a lean meat, veggies, and a side salad. Dessert (yes dessert!) is varied forms of ricotta cheese that you can flavor with vanilla extract, almond extract, and splenda. You really don't feel hungry at all. After the first two weeks you slowly reintergrate fruit and carbs (grains, whole grain) such as bread and pasta. If you have a short time to lose weight, this will def be a kickstart for a more long term program. But don't do phase 1 for more than two weeks or you will be bored and might slip!!!! Check out the south beach diet supercharged book for meal plans, recepie ideas, and workouts!!!

I didn't say it was 17 days, I actually said that every 17 days you eat something different. The first 17 days is very limited but you can actually eat unlimited amounts of protein and veggies. I also keep track of what I eat on myfitnesspal to make sure I'm getting enough calories. I have also been working out at least 4 times a week without any issues. I have not felt like I was starving at all, its all about planning out your food. I have found some very good recipes that go along with this also. For me, I "smartened up" and realized that I needed a plan like this to get myself eating better. Before I started this plan I was getting a stomach ache on a daily basis, and since starting this, I have not had one stomach ache. So for some people, a plan like this is a good way to get on track to eating better.

Like J&K I used SparkPeople, and sites like Jillian Michaels, and Biggest Loser are pretty helpful.

I keep a food journal and watch what and how I eat. I think having a food journal helps since it keeps you accountable. 1 meal a week I allow myself to have what I want (within reason) and this also helps with the cravings. I am not going out and eating 20 hot wings from KFC, but I am able to enjoy my food more.

I eat a 40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fat diet. I have essentially cut sugar out of my diet. The first things I look at on a nutrition label are: calories, sugar, protein, fat and sodium. For any one type of food I try to limit my sugar to 11 grams. I have severely reduced my simple carb intake and eat whole wheat bread and brown rice.

Currently my diet is 1600-1800 a day and I work out 5 days a week. I mix 1-1:30 of cardio 3 times a week, 2 days of personal training which is cardio and weights, and 2 days with core and 30 minutes of cardio.

    Average day:
    Cheerios 3/4 cup- 110 Cal
    Cottage Cheese 1/2 cup-100 Cal

    Lunch
Lean Pocket (these have a lot of sodium in them but it is the easiest thing for me to eat)
    250-300 Cal

    Apple- 80 Cal
    Clementine- 35 Cal

    Pretzels- 120 Cal

    Post Workout
    3 Turkey Links -120
    2 egg whites- 34
    1 WHole wheat toast- 90

    Dinner
Turkey burger w/ 1/2 C Marinara Sauce and a little reduce fat Moz cheese
    395 Cal

    Dessert-
    Skinny Cow Bar- 110 Cal

Have you tried counting calories? I downloaded myfitnesspal for my phone and I lost a lot of weight with it. Its very easy.. just log your food and don't go over calories.

Weight Watchers along with exercise always works for me.

  • I use myfitness pal. It doesn't give you meal plans, but you log what you eat and it keeps up with your calories. It's basically a food journal in your phone. I love it and I have lost 30 pounds since Christmas doing it!

  • I'm with you!  I can't seem to stick to a diet unless I have one set out for me that tells me exactly what to eat.  I haven't dieted in a while and like you, I would also like to lose 20lbs, but would be satisfied with 15lbs.  I have been trying to do some type of exercise at least five times a week, but with my job at a computer, I'm usually sitting for 8 hours out of the day and in my car commuting for another 3 hours (1-1/2 hour drive each way)!  That's 11 hours out of the day totally on my butt.  It has taken it's toll.  I used to be a size 2, but I've gained so much weight I can't fit into my clothes and I'm up another two sizes. :(  I'm trying to watch what I eat, but it's tough.  I guess it's more of having the discipline than anything.  I know how many calories are in most foods and yet, I can't stop myself from eating a slice of pizza now and then or ordering a chicken parm sandwich when I know I should be getting a turkey wrap instead!   I need help.
