So we have over 200 rolls of tape that have their own dispensers. I have no use for them and they were given to me. We were not going to do favors, but I thought this would be a great way to get rid of all that tape. We would put a sticker on them that says " We are STICKING together thru thick and thin."
What do you think? (Did I mention that we both have a wierd personality too.)
Re: Rolls of Tape as favors
RSVP Deadline: June 15, 2011
If you decide to not go through with it, you can donate to schools. The way school budgets are right now, any little bit helps and as a pp said, you would get a tax write-off.
who cares what other people think, those that know you will think it's a cute idea, if they understand your personality.
our favors are donations to the National MS Society and the American Cancer Society, because they are huge issues in our family and affect our lives daily- our favors will include a card stating a donation has been made in honor of this gathering and they will get a ribbon to wear!
do what you want, it's YOUR day!
You could definitely donate them to a school. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
Also, why the heck do you have 200 rolls of tape?

If I got a roll of tape at a wedding as a favor I'd be serioulsy giving you the side eye and wondering WTF??
However, personally, I'd be a little embarassed to pass that on to my guests.

I would actually care what my guests thought as they were leaving my wedding. Yep, I would also suggest selling them on eBay or putting them on Craigslist. Don't pawn your unwanted materials off on your guests.

Make your donation. I believe in donations. I make them myself. I think they're a good thing to do.
But don't pretend that they're a favor to your guests. Because they're not. They're a favor to the organization, and to you. You're taking the money you'd spend on a little something for your guests and giving it to someone else. How do you figure that's a favor for your guests?
Honestly, I don't need a favor. I don't really want a favor. You're already giving me food, drinks, entertainment. I don't need a matchbook or m&ms (although I LOVE m&ms) as a thank you.
But please don't in any, way, shape or form think that giving $$ to a charity is somehow doing something for me.
I'd liken it to a guest coming to your wedding and giving you a card that says "In honor of your marriage, I have given a donation to the "eastern micronesia tsunami prevention fund". It may be important to your guest, but it probably doesn't mean anything to you. So it's not really a gift for you, is it.

This cracked me up! lol LOVE.
I think if it actually was some quirky reflection of your personality, it'd be one thing, but even though you're saying you have weird personalities ... you're also saying "I'm getting rid of some junk". So it's not a reflection of you as a couple, it's a glorified recycling ritual.
Another thing, nobody's pointed this out yet, but just because you provide favors, doesn't mean your guests will take them.. Every person I know (Including myself) that has done favors has had some left over at the end of the night. The percentage of "left behind" is much higher for non-edible favors. There's an excellent chance that at the end of the night, you're going to be bringing more than 1/2 the tape home, which isn't really solving your problem.
If you fire a WP member, you're against America.

I would like to mention, that I love tape and as one person pointed out you can never have to much tape. However, 200 rolls of tape is a little much. It's not that I am pawning off my unwanted junk, but when you have a small budget I look for outs.
Thanks for all the ideas, and I will definatly donate the remaining to a school. Along with 23 copies of Charlettes Web, Construction paper and about 1000blocks.
The question of how did i get that many rolls of tape (and 23 copies of 1 book) is a Public Storage Auction. When people stop paying on their storage units the store can legally sell there stuff (after a long legal process). So for a few $$ you can wind up with lots of junk and some useful items!
Did I mention what my FI wants to do for favors?? That is another post in itself.

Well you would have to in order to think this is a good idea. The saying is catchy and I applaud you for thinking it up in order to make this "wedding like" but seriously tape??? I would leave the reception going...that was the weirdest thing ever! You'll probably still have 200 rolls left after the wedding as well.
