I have no clue where to have our reception. All ideas are welcomed

This is my first time posting anything on here! I hope this works we live in the Detroit area we are looking for a nice place to have our reception. Ideally, I would like for our wedding and reception to be at the same location. I thought about the Fox Theater (I'm waiting on a phone call back from them) we are also going to look into the Westin Hotel in Southfield. I guess I should say what I absolutely don't want. I do not under any circumstances want a basement reception. Meaning I do not want it in a little hall where the lighting is funky...you know the kind that has the kitchen off to the side. It kinda makes me feel like I'm in  the school cafe.

  • There are a ton of options. Do you know how many guests approx. you'll have?

Do you want indoor or outdoor?

    Budget?

Any areas work better than others?

A little more info and we can probably help you a bit better.

  • Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the Detroit board!

There is a permanent post at the top of the board where all the brides have posted their vendors, including venues, with prices and ratings. It's cumbersome to go through, but there are also a lot of vendor reviews on the Wedding Channel, which is a Knot affiliated website. You can search by location and type of vendor you want.

It will help us a lot of you answer the questions in the prior poster's post.

</div><div>Yikes I did neglect all the important information I'm sorry about that. 200 guests, indoors (I'm BEYOND afriad of bugs), 30,000 is our budget. I'm open to any area.

  • Is $30,000 your total wedding budget or just your reception budget?

<div>30,000 is my total budget. The majority of the cost is going toward the reception. Is that cheap? </div>

[QUOTE]TaRisha, I'm not sure about the Fox, but we're having our reception at The Fillmore which I think is a bit cheaper than the Fox.  It's worth looking into, it's so beautiful, like a mini Fox!

    <div>I forgot about the Filmore!!! That's a good idea! Thank you <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>
  • You could also check the Colony Club/Gem Theater.  The Westin Southfield's atrium would be nice for the ceremony (may be too small) with a reception in one of the ballrooms.  There is also the Sky Club connected to the Westin which does receptions.  All of these places would be in your budget which I personal think is not cheap at all.

Your budget isn't cheap depending on what you're looking for really.  Actually, your budget is over 3x what mine was.

  • I second the colony club! We had our ceremony and reception there and now they have a mini ballroom upstairs that you can have your ceremony in. That is a perfect size and budget for the venue. If you like the Fox I think you would like the colony club too, it's classic and absolutely BEAUTIFUL! They book up pretty fast, our date was a cancellation, otherwise they were full about a year And a half out! I really can't say enough about it, it's a really impressive space! Good luck :

I don't think that's cheap- Thats about what mine was. I loved the masonic temple of detroit for both reception and ceremony. We ended up with a different venue for reception bc I really wanted to use their chapel and we had a break in between so we needed seperate sites for each.
