Flower girl dresses?

Anyone have one picked out?  Ordered?  Budget is keeping me from going to get one until August, right after my FG turns 6 years old.  I'm just worrying now about if we have to order something from DB's.  My FG is also going to be FG for a wedding in August 2013 so the bride and I are going in together on FG dress/shoes/basket costs.  She and I both picked colors from David's Bridal so we're starting there for a dress.

Anyone have experience?

This are the one that I am thinking of getting for our two flower girls (my stepdaughters).  I refuse to pay any where near $100 for a dress!  They won't ever wear it again and will grow out of it within 6 months.  I actually looked around a lot during Easter, but never found anything I liked enough.  My dress is by Maggie Sottero and they don't make flower girl dresses, so I can't worry too much about the ivory color matching.  I thought about getting a sash from Alfred Angelo in the same color as the BM's dresses and making two sashes, since it's so long, to use in place of the one the dress comes with.

  • I ordered the dress for my flower girl from DB April 28. It was to come in June 11, and arrived early May 18. They say 6 weeks. I could have also bought off the rack but there wasn't any discount and since I had time I figured I might as well order it brand new. We switched the ivory bow out for a navy bow. They didn't have the navy bow at the DB where the FG lived and couldn't get it in before the wedding in Oct. They had the navy bow at my local store so I purchased everything at the local DB. Hope that helps!
  • I'm going to see what dresses are in dept stores in August.  I tried looking online yesterday but everything is too summery for a mid-late Oct wedding in Ohio.  I also want to keep the cost low. My niece was also FG for my sister and wore a mini version of sister's dress. It was quite expensive. If it weren't for the fact that it is a mini version of sister's gown I'd just have her wear it again. It won't look right though

  • Thanks ladies.  I think I'm going to end up looking at dept stores in August as well.  Neither of us wants to spend a ton of money on something she can't wear twice (less than a year apart but still).  Hmmmm.

  • Kids grow really fast. I don't know that you can expect something that fits her right in Oct to still fit her next August.

  • My goal for my entire wedding party was to have them wear something that they would definitely be able to wear again (or at least for all the girls since the guys are renting).  I found a really cute sundress that has a style like my wedding dress for the flower girl at Old Navy for $20. Since I am having a fall wedding with a rustic theme I realize I can get away with this more than others, but I'm pretty excited about it!

  • I'm jealous tamra!!  I really hope we can find something that will work.  My Aug. 2013 bride just said she was going to have our FG wear something she already owned, hence trying to go in halfsies on a dress.  Now I'm kind of nervous it'll be too big for us or too small for her.  Blah.

My FSIL found my FG dress at JCP after Easter.  It's just fine and was only $20!

  • My flower girl's grandmother (mother of the MOH) bought a dress for her at the local department store for like 20 bucks. I'm not overly crazy about it, but like PPs have said she will never wear it again and I refuse to ask them to spend even $50 on the dress. For the Canadian girls. try Zellers. Everything is going to be on clearance soon enough anyways.

  • I am having a friend of mine who sews make mine. She's making a little tutu dress like this: http://tutugirl.wordpress.com/2008/10/14/wedding-tutus-flower-girl-tutus-tutu-formal-attire/ My flower girl, who is my first and only niece, will only be 2 years old, so I wanted her to have something that was comfortable and fun for her to wear, all while being super cute.

  • My sister only spent $25 on her daughter's dress.  We had looked at ones at David's Bridal, but she's little, the dress will most likely be destroyed so I wouldn't let her spend over $100 on it.  Found an adorable white dress at Burlington.  She's going to be so cute and when she covers it in juice before the ceremony, I won't care! :)
