Burn Scar

I have a pink scar (not raised, just discolored) on my neck from a bad curling iron burn back in November.  I've been putting my heavy night cream on it, and it seems to be fading/healing a little, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to help it along?  I'd ideally like to have no visible scarring by my June wedding.

Re: Burn Scar

  • Mederma works great. I had a 2nd degree burn from my oven and the pink is fading nicely. If I remembered to use it more, it would probably be gone. It costs around $20.

  • I love bio-oil for scarring.  I have lots of scars from skin biopsies and this stuff does fade them quite a bit.  I don't really have any burn scars to give you advice on, and mine probably won't ever truly go away, but they are so faded now after regular use for about a year that I can barely see them.  It's pretty inexpensive as well, about $13 for a bottle and can be found at most drugstores.  It also helps with redness/inflammation too.  :)

  • Get a silicone adhesive patch. You should be able to buy them in the first aid section of a well stocked drug store - they will be with the rest of the scar treatment. Wear the patch religiously at night and during the day time use a scar cream. Your scar will be faded to skin color and flat within a few months or less.
  • You could also go to your doctor and get a perscription cream.  I was badly burned in 2010 (2nd degree burns on 66% of my body).  My doctor encouraged me to use Elidel (an exzema cream) on the scars and it actually worked really well.
