HELP!! Unique Venue needed

We are looking for a unique wedding venue in the Mpls/St. Paul area. Our budget is around $10K and we would like to stay away from the typical ballroom style wedding. We are not able to be flexible with our date and we are having a problem finding places with availablity in our budget. I need some fresh ideas!

I second PEC! It's somewhat typical, but with the lighting and everything it's GORGEOUS! Plus it's something different than just using a hotel or community center!

I'd look at parks and other city attractions that allow rentals like the Washington County Courthouse, Centennial Lakes Park, Millenium Park (Gardens? I forget the correct name but it's in Plymouth). Most will let you bring in your own vendors and that way you wouldn't have to adhere to a lot of minimums and whatnot.

How big is your guest list? I think that'd give us a better idea of what places to recommend :-)

Millennium Gardens at the Plymouth Creek Center.  I am getting married there next summer and it is a beautiful and reasonably priced venue if you are looking for something outdoors!

The Day Block Building (aka loft space above Spill the Wine restaurant) is unique and reasonable, especially on a Friday night.  You can rent all or part of the space depending upon size and you can bring in any caterer/liquor vendors with a Mpls license.

I don't really know prices, but these venues are all not ballroom feeling:
    Como Park Pavillion
    Woodbury Central Park
    Nicollet Island Pavillion
    Harriet Island Pavillion
    Wabasha Street Caves
    Science Museum of Minnesota
    Bell Museum of Natural History
    Little Log House Pioneer Village
St. Croix Boat and Packet company (get married on a paddle boat)

I'll add my $.02 - my venue was the Varsity Theater, which is completely non-ballroom-ish. Depending on your number of guests, it fits in your budget (if your entire wedding - dress, flowers, etc - is $10k, then not so much).

They have a webcalendar where you can see if your date is booked: http://www.varsitytheater.org/calendar.html

I'll ditto the PEC since I had my wedding there and had an absolutely amazing experience and is definitely "ballroom"-ish, especially the Diamond Hall where we had our reception. However they have gotten a little spendy. Is $10k your entire budget or your budget for the reception?

We had ours at Columbia Manor in NE Mpls... which depending on your guest list size (probably less than 200) could be below $10k for the reception.

    Other interesting/unique places:
    - Elsie's (NE Mpls)
    - PNA Hall (NE Mpls)
    - Old Arizona Theater (So. Mpls)

This comparison matrix is pretty helpful for looking at some other different venues as well:
