How to properly thank for such a huge gift?

One of our family friends has generously offered us an amazing, luxury honeymoon.  How do we thank them for such a gigantic gift?  I don't feel like a thank you card is enough for a $10,000ish gift.

  • That's a good idea, thank you!!!  Should we send it now since they already booked it or wait until after we get back from the honeymoon?

My niece and her husband weren't able to make it to our wedding.
They offered their timeshare for our honeymoon, anywhere we wanted to go. We went to Hawaii.  When we got back we sent them a huge Edible Arrangement along with a thank you card!

[QUOTE]I would send a heartfelt card, flowers and/or wine and get them a souvenir from wherever you go.  That's the sort of thing where no amount of thank-yous (<strong>short of naming your first born after them</strong>) is going to match the gift. So just be genuine and have someone who knows wine pick out the bottle ;)

Maybe you SHOULD name your first born after them! That's an amazing gift!

I think that was tongue-in-cheek.  Seriously, that's an awesome gift.  I would wait until you get back, then send a really nice bottle of wine, or I like the idea of the edible arrangement.

  • Send a thank you card, bottle of wine and possibly a gift card for a nice dinner now.  When you get back send another note telling them how much fun you had, insert some pictures from the HM (non-bedroom ones please :P) and also, while on your HM, buy them something special from the location (something nice, not some random cheap souvenir).

But you should definitely thank them now since the HM is already booked and paid for.

<div>THIS!  A short & sweet TY card, and some type of token of appreciation/gratitude so that they can 'relax' with you (a couples massage, dinner certificate, or anything they're fond of).  When you get back, you'll be able to write your lengthy TY note regarding how much fun you had, how much you appreciated it, etc.  Do as Maggie suggested & get them something special from wherever it is that you're going, even a "welcome back" basket from the two of you to them.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /></div>
