Should we get a video?

We are debating if we should get less hours of photo and get videographer, or if we should get more hours of photography and don't get video? What do you girls think? We found a photographer who we like and they're offering 8 hours for $1,899.00. I'm thinking maybe we should get less hours of photos (maybe 6 hours) and get the video? How much is typical video cost, and how many hours will we need? Is it worth getting video and cutting hours on photos? What is your experience with this?
Thanks for any help

I wanted a video but when I really though about it I realized we would probably watch it once or twice and then it would be put in the back of the entertainment center and forgotten. Photos are more practical to me and it;s hard to split the time up. Youll need a photographer for the getting ready shots and then youd switch to videographer at some point for the ceremony, right? Then back to photographer for the reception?

I wouldn't cut the photography time. We found a great deal that did a video and unedited dvd of the day. Granted, I liked my video guy better than my photographer, but that is beside the point. See if you can get a deal if you want it.

TheMrsCabral, i feel the same way about video, but my hubs-to-be is less interested in photos :( I just have to convince him that photos are more important lol. I'd rather have more hours for photos, we have pretty large family so it might take some time for that alone.
teachermegs, did you have to edit your own video or how does it work?

Well if he wont let up on it Travis Brogen is much cheaper than the rate you posted and he is a really good videographer IMO.. but I honestly wouldn't cut photo time at all. So maybe if you stiched to Travis and it saved you enough money you wouldnt need to cut photo..

I thank GOD everyday for my video...there are moments of my wedding that my photographer did not capture...not because he was not a good photographer but there was a lot going on.  With my video I was able to see moments that I would have never seen againt had I not had the video.

So IMO the video really really meant a lot to me as well as family members that were not able to make it to the wedding at least they were able to see the video or the trailer that we had.

    HTH!

We're not going to get a video. I had a Bat Mitzvah (big Jewish celebration where the reception is just like a wedding) when I was 12, and that video was something my mom watched a few times, but which I never wanted to see. Still don't. This may be a more important occasion, but I'm happy to have friends and family take video when they want and hopefully send snippets to me than spend another several hundred on something I may watch once or twice. I know I will look at my photos, however, over and over and over. It depends what is very important to you!

Video wasn't in our budget, and we had a friend who offered to do it, he is familiar with a video production so it was good. We put more towards photographer.

I was on the fence at first and my husband wanted it. I was more for photography. We did both and I'm so happy I did. Life's Highlight's did an amazing job at our wedding on March 25th. This is just the highlight video and it turned out amazing:

It wasn't in our budget but we made it work and I'm so grateful that we did!

We debated as well but after talking w/ 2 friends who didn't have a video and they totally regretted not having one, we made the decision to get one.  We booked Ian at Movie Magic (www.moviemagiconline.com). He is detail oriented, professional & very personable.

    Good luck!!
