Hand Written Addresses = Hand Cancel?

Hey all-

I took the wedding invite class today at Paper Depot.
The lady said if your addresses are hand written that your invite will automatically be hand cancelled? Is there any truth to this?

Completely untrue. Some post offices will flat-out refuse to hand cancel anything... but usually they do it by request.

Yea that can't be true because the post office by my house just told me that they would charge $0.21 per invitation to hand cancel them :(

No way, Jose! You have to request it.

What does it mean to "hand cancel"?  I'm just about to send out my invites.

Yea as the PP said - you have to request it.

I have pictures of both my non hand cancel trail and what they looked after coming through the mail hand canceled in my Bio under Paper.
Basically it is the difference between the envelope getting run thru the machines to cancel the stamp (creating a date time stamp over the postage stamp as well as a barcode at the bottom - the machines can also beat up the envelope a bit) or hand canceling where a person takes a little round stamp and stamps red ink over the postage stamp to cancel it so there are no other marks on the outside.

    HTH!
