Is this realistic?

Just wanted some input on whether these two parts of my budget are realistic or not.... I feel like such a wedding dummy, I have no clue what anything should cost.

Flowers - $2,000

For that price, I want 5 to 6 bridesmaids bouquets, 5 to 6 groomsmen corsages, ceremony arrangements and 18 to 20 centerpieces. I will probably be purchasing a brooch bouquet for myself on Etsy, so that will come out of my own pocket, not the budget. I'm not dead set on any particular kinds of flowers, I am mainly looking for pretty and inexpensive... and probably purple.

Music - Also $2,000

I want that to cover the organist at the church, possibly a string duo or trio (quartet will probably be too expensive) for the ceremony instead of the organist (but I think in most cases you still have to pay the organist, which is absurd, but whatever) and then 6 hours of DJ music at the reception/cocktail hour.

Do you think it's possible to get what I want for those prices or will I have to either cut some things or up the budget?

Re: Is this realistic?

  • We're having a DJ do our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception (6 hours total, 5pm to 11pm), for $600.
  • Teep, which DJ are you using?  That would work perfect for my budget!

  • DJ Robert, here's his website (it's actually $675 sorry I booked him a while ago I just knew the ballpark figure) http://simplyelegantweddingdj.com/Home.html
  • I wish I could help more but I honestly don't know what to say.

We have a band, so I don't know what DJs cost. Our ceremony musicians (organist/cantor) are $550 and that amount is not negotiable, but as long as you can find a less expensive DJ, maybe $2000 total would be doable. I think the only way you could get an additional trio for the cocktail hour would be to hire students. Maybe if you researched some local college students?

Im not sure how you could do that many centerpieces for under $2000 unless you did non-floral. If you buy your own vases (e.g. at Michael's crafts or the Dollar Store), some florists may cut you a deal.

    Sorry that's not very helpful!

Call London Creative Florist. They should be able to accommodate your budget. 215 634 0505

ETA: I used them in 2009 and I paid under $1K for my bouquet, 6 bm bouquets, 1 jr bm bouquet, 10 bouts, 2 mother's mini bouquets, presentation to mary flowers, a couple of corsages and 2 altar arrangements.
  • Sienna Strings is who I used for my trio, and they were really reasonably priced. I think you can def. get away with both of those costs for your budget, esp. since you aren't dead set on a certain kind of flower!
  • If you can DIY your flowers and cut the quartet then yes.

  • I think $2k is high for flowers.  I am paying $1k for pretty much all the same things except the ceremony flowers (we aren't allowed to have them) .  I am getting 6 bouquets, my bouquet, all the boutineers, 4 corsages, a pomander ball for the flower girl and 18 centerpieces.  I would def shop around.  I personally nixed the ceremony flowers bc the church will already be decorated for Lent.

As far as music I think a DJ can range anywhere from $500-$1000 and the 2k budget is good if you want to include the instruments etc...

    Good luck!

  • I used Celebrations Design Group for my flowers... and for about $1k I got:

5 BM bouquets, my bouquet, 3 wrist corsages, 10 bouts, a toss-bouquet, small bouquet for dedication to Blessed Mother (Catholic ceremony), and also 2 arrangements for the church.

The thing that might break your budget a little is the 18 to 20 centerpieces... my CPs were included in my venue package, so I didn't have to worry about that.  Whichever florist you decide to go with, be honest about your budget.  For my church flowers, I let the florist pick what flowers went in there, because when you want certain flowers, that can drive the price up.
Paprika: I like it when you burp in my ear. It really turns me on.

  • Yes it is realistic but you might have to look around alittle.  My flowers were around that for the same quanity and I used higher end floral choices but I did have to shop around abit.  I went with Ron Eastburn in DE.  My organist and DJ total was less than $2000 but I used them for less time too.
