Sparklers or Bubbles

For my ceremony, I'm going to have my guests throw rose petals.

For our first dance, I would like to make it unique. I'm thinking of either having our guests blow bubbles or use wedding sparklers.

Which would you suggest? Where could I find sparklers?

Re: Sparklers or Bubbles

  • If you are inside, I doubt either will work.

With sparklers, there will be too much smoke setting off the fire alarm.  I think sparlers are a lot of work...passing them out, lighting them, buckets of sand or water to put them in when they are done (they are hot metal left over...can't just set them down somewhere).

With bubbles, they will make your dance floor slippery if there is a wooden surface.  If not, your venue may have issues with the bubbles.  My reception venue (a hotel ballroom) had a no bubble policy b/c of slickness on the floor (especially if spilled) and they stained the carpet.

If you are outside, I would say as long as you aren't on a dance floor surface, go with bubbles.  Less to deal with.  I had bubbles on the exit from the church...and there are pics in my married bio.  It made for great pics.
  • My DD had bubbles during her first dance, and to be honest, it didn't work well,  Indoors the bubbles just don't travel well, and so the bubbles never really reached them for photos.  A couple of people kept inching closer and closer to them on the dance floor to try to create a photo, but then they were in the photographer's way.

I'd skip bubbles.  And I'm hard pressed to imagine any venue that would allow sparklers indoors.  So I'm guessing your reception is outside?
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • If you do decide to do bubbles, I found a deal on them at the $1 store--an 8 pack of them for, you guessed it, $1. They also had some bottles of them with a 9 pack for $1.
  • OK, first of all sparklers are "smokeless"  So they don't smoke.  However, I highly doubt your venue will allow sparklers inside.  I just ordered 150 36" sparklers online (ton of websites to choose from).  If you want to do it as a send off outside, you get 4-5 people to light the sparklers, say every 5th person or so, with a butane lighter or a 10 inch sparkler.  Then the guests light each other's sparklers. (matches will not work) The 36" ones can last up to 5 minutes, so if it's timed correctly, the effect can be dramatic.  My venue actually used to allow sparklers inside until someone set the floor on fire...lol...
