Rebel without a bouquet?

So originally I thought we'd have some flowers as centerpieces but we've now decided on large decorative vases with candles as centerpieces instead as our reception will start around 8pm and will be a cocktail & appetizer event with dancing.

I'm throwing around the idea of no boquet for me!  Seems like a waste of money to me.  We're not having a wedding party per se just my best friend and my Fi's brother as our "witnesses" or "maid of honor" & "best man."

Anyone else rebel against traditional boquets and do something different or nothing at all?

I'm rebelling too! I'm not a big fan of flowers myself, and I get frustrated watching beautiful flowers wilt/die by the end of the night. I'd rather spend my money on something else. So I've decided to do a brooch bouquet. They're beautiful, unique and most importantly--last forever! Once the wedding is over, I'm going to put the bouquet in a vase and display it at home and who knows, maybe one day my daughter or daughter-in-law will use it too!

As for my bridesmaids, I'm going to make their bouquets out of silk flowers and peacock feathers (peacock themed wedding) and they can have it as a keepsake too.

Other ideas we came up with though in place of flower bouquets were: fans, big lollipops, all-feather bouquets, candle, a button bouquet (very similar to brooch bouquet), or lanterns.

Bejohnson, I LOVE your idea!  I've never heard of a brooch bouquet before so I Googled and think they're gorgeous!  How unique and special!  May I ask where you're getting your supplies from?

I'm really loving this idea being I can add a bit more bling and antique-d look as our theme is "old Hollywood glamour!"  Thank you for the wonderful idea and glad to hear there are others out there who feel flowers are an unnecessary waste-both monetarily & environmentally speaking.

Unfortunately, I am not the craftiest of brides (when I say I'm going to make the bridesmaid bouquets--I really mean sit and drink wine while giving lots of encouragement to my super crafty bridesmaid). I've tried to find brooches myself and I've asked my friends, family, FI's family if they have any I could use and it seems I've only gotten a handful. I really think it's a cool idea to have brooches from different family members and friends make up your bouquet because then it's like a part of each of them is with you walking down the aisle. :)

So since I don't have enough to make my own, I'm going to either go through an etsy seller (there's a bunch if you search for brooch bouquet on the site) or I know there's a woman in MN who makes them herself and she has an esty page too (http://www.etsy.com/shop/kuriogem?ref=ss_profile). I'll probably go through her since I'd be able to meet with her face to face and not have to worry about shipping it too. GL!!!

I am doing a brooch bouquet too. I also am not a big flower person. I got all of my brooches online at fabulousbrooch.com. GO THERE! Their brooches are SUPER cheap and work perfectly for a brooch bouquet.

I made super simple bouquets of silk flowers for my MOH and I. We had a few silk flowers in these decorative lanterns that we had up front during the ceremony. Those were the only "flowers" we had. Our centerpieces were two 3"x5" picture frames (one with a picture of us and one with a picture of a place or object that meant something to us) on little easels on either side of a small lantern.

I'm going to carry a bouquet made from paper flowers. I actually got a bunch of DIY instructions from Martha Steward and I'm going to be making all of the decor from recycled paper for our wedding (poofs from book pages of our favorite novels, stuff like that) and I found a few really awesome paper flower styles so I'll be doing that for myself and my honored maids. I've seen a lot of people carry their family bibbles a la Gwen Stefani, or even just a handkerchief. I think the main thing is to have something to keep in your hands so you don't look like you are fidgeting. ;)

I'm thinking about doing fabric flowers. I love the way they look when they're done right! I also have been considering crochet flowers because that's something my mom and I can easily do!

I've also considered paper and feather bouquets. I'm not personally a fan of brooch bouquets, but I think when done right they're awesome for other people!

I'm not big on flowers either, I'm instead using a fake flower bouquet (picture's in my siggy) that I got from an Etsy seller and ordered several extra loose 'flowers' to make my centerpieces with :-)
