AW: Marriage License Check =)

I just got back to the UK yesterday and am trying to catch up with all the threads and thought I'd post one of my most exciting checks I got done on my U.S. trip!

We got our marriage license on Friday - woohoo! It was a pretty simple process, we just had to meet with a clerk at the Baltimore City court house and answer a few questions (basically just name, SSN, and address). They didn't even ask to see our I.D.'s.

We were expecting to have to go back to pick it up later (the web site said there is a 48 hour waiting period in Maryland to get your marriage license), but I guess they can wave that because we were given the license right away. Now it is safely stored in my mom's house in her fireproof safe haha.

Ahhhh it's getting so close and so real now!

Yeah, it depends on the state you are getting married in. In Maryland, it's good for six months, but some are less.

Yeah, Michigan is only 30 days I think. Congrats on getting that done!

Silly Massachusetts marriage licenses are only good for 60 days.

Yes! 69 days left, unbelievable!

We'll probably both work from home 1 day in May and go in the afternoon for it. FI was surprised when I told him that we both had to go to file for it and I couldn't just do it myself, hahaha.

Wow! In Minnesota the license is good for 6 months. We're going to apply for one in a couple of weeks. Then there is a 5 day waiting period.

Sorry I was MIA! I usually post at work (shh!!) but I took off Thurs and Fri for wedding planning and family time, and then flew back Saturday night, so I just haven't been near a computer.

Other than the license, we also picked out our linens and finalized our menu with the caterer, met with the florist to plan flowers, shopped for wine for the reception, got quotes from transportation companies for buses, and met with our "day-of coordinator" and her assistant (a.k.a. my mom's co-worker <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" /> and her daughter). Oh and we signed the agreement with the lighting guy and got all the GM to order their suits!

We have our appt May 4th to get our marriage license. It becomes void after 90 days, no blood tests or anything crazy required. Just show up and show your ID and pay $89 No waiting period. You get it right then and there.

colleen - Do you know if there's a waiting period in PA? We won't be back in Philly together until the few days before the wedding (or at least, that's what we planned), so we were going to go on that Wednesday to get the license for Saturday.

I hope there isn't a waiting period!!!!!!!

Wow! What a productive trip congrats! I'm jealous of all you marriage liscence girls. We have to actually be married at city hall like several weeks before our church wedding. What a downer. I always imagined being married the second we say "I do" and sign those papers. So looks like I'll have "two" wedding dates lol. Or we could pay city hall a ton of money for someone to come down to our venue and take care of it there but it's not looking like we can afford it. Oh well!

Congrats on all those checks that was a VERY productive weekend!

In New Mexico once you get the license it is good forever, it only costs $25 and you don't have to get any blood tests. FI and I have tried to go twice already but something always comes up. Hopefully once school is out for him in a couple of weeks we will be able to get that done.

Ours is good for 3 months in Montana and is $53. You don't have to get a blood test, but there is a 7 page questionnaire you have to fill out.
