**KatieAnn18**

I saw on the news this morning that you're stealing my Archbishop.

Apparently Archbishop Charles Chaput, formerly of Denver, is now going to Philadelphia to end the corruption. The Pope did not like how the Cardinal, who is stepping down, handled child molestation cases.

Interestingly enough, everybody out here in Colorado have nothing but praise for Chaput. However, when I was in Toledo, the priest who married us did not speak too kindly of him. He thought Chaput was too strict with the requirements he imposed on couples getting married (I personally did not mind the more stringent requirements), and was just too strict in general on other things.

I'm just curious what your thoughts are. If you think this is a good change for Pennsylvania or would you prefer Cardinal Rigali?

Chaput is not being moved to "end the corruption". Rigali is mandatory retirement age, in fact, past it. The timing of this, while perhaps convenient, is also coincidental.

Chaput worked closely with Christopher West while he was in Denver on marriage and family life. Since the TOB institute is in Philly its very good they are together once again.

I think it's still unfortunate, nonetheless, that something like this had to go all the way to a Grand Jury.

Just goes to show that even the most religious of us are not without fault.

I was quoting what I heard on the news, and I found several sources to back it up.

Who knows if anything will come of it, but the past six months have been bruising for the church of Philadelphia--by which I mean the people of God there who have to put up with such poor leadership on sex abuse that it may have descended to the criminal. If Rigali goes it will be good news on two fronts: first, that a bishop who failed so egregiously to ensure that his diocese followed its own guidelines regarding sex abuse allegations actually gets the boot; and second, Rome is taking more seriously demands from the church--again, I mean the people of God--to relieve them of such incompetent leadership.

The announcement can’t come soon enough: a chancery official described the situation in Philadelphia as “quicksand…everything feels like it is sinking.” Ever since the release of a second Grand Jury report in February indicated that the archdiocese had failed to follow its own procedures regarding child protection, and the subsequent removal of some two dozen clergy from ministry, the clergy and the people have felt demoralized.

It seems to me that Rigali was not as pious as one would think a Cardinal ought to be, and it seems that there was some corruption there. The news said that the Pope had hoped Chaput would turn the diocese around and end the corruption.

H and I were actually just discussing that... seems like a great bishop, unfortunately we're diocese of Pittsburgh, not Philly. (well, unfortunately only because he's not coming here. Otherwise Pittsburgh is way better than Philly in all respects lol. In fact, H's and my discussion ended with the observation that its unfortunate for Chaput that he has to go from the beautiful state of Colorado to Philly haha). From what I've read about Chaput, he seems like a wonderful, orthodox bishop, which will hopefully be good for Philadelphia, in more ways than the end of corruption.
