Does bride make a toast/speech at wedding or rehearsal dinner?

Getting married in a few short days and now wondering if I am supposed to say anything at either the rehearsal or wedding reception....does the bride make a toast or a speech at either? Or does the groom do this? Or do we both not do anything? I'm confused. Help!

I'm also getting married on Saturday! I'm going to say a few words at the rehearsal and FI is making a toast at the reception.

I think it's up to what you want, especially at the rehearsal dinner. I believe it's probably tradition for the father of the bride to give a toast/make a speech at the reception; but in our case b/c we are paying for the wedding ourselves, so we (bride/groom) will probably do the speech/welcome guests for coming ourselves.

We paid for everything ourselves, but still had my dad make a toast - he really wanted to, and it ended up being one of the sweetest and most memorable moments of the day. He even made some of my friends cry. DH was supposed to make a thank you speech/toast at the RD, but every time he started to practice he would look at me and get choked up. Neither of us ended up saying anything at either, which I was totally happy with.

I spoke at the reception. We didn't plan it that way, I just got the mic after everyone was done with their speeches. I'm sure the glass of champagne helped!

Husband thanked everyone at the RD, and it was VERY short and sweet.  Neither of us said anything at the reception, because my dad did the toast and he said everything we would have to our guets.  I did, however, take the mic to explain to everyone our table names.  We named the tables after milestones in our relationship, and if people wanted to know our whole story they had to get up and move around the room to read the backs of the table names.  It was also my little trick to get people up and moving and hoepfully make their way to the dance floor ; )

</div><div>As for the bride and groom, we didn't say anything at the RD, but we both said a couple of things together after everyone had given their speeches (MOH, BM, FOB, FOG, and my grandpa). It was mostly just a "thanks for coming and sharing this day with us, yadda yadda, CHEERS!" kinda thing.
