October 2012 Weddings

a few small things

1.  I was very worried about ordering tuxes through Men's Warehouse.  I didn't have a choice because the guys are spread out and getting them here for a local place would have been too difficult.  I've heard horror stories about tuxes from them.  Luckily, everyone's came in early and were correct, to my knowledge.  They all fit and that's really what I was most concerned about.

2.  Today was my bridal shower at work.  No one was looking out for me, so I walked into the room, noticed and the cake, someone noticed me then screamed "Surprise!'  We all laughed and enjoyed delicious, incredibly sweet cake at 8 am :)  They also gave me an incredibly generous gift card to Macy's.

3.  I'm a teacher and go by Ms. Maiden Name.  Tomorrow is my last day of work and will be the last time in my life that I will be called by my name.  I've been fine with changing my name all along, but this afternoon I got sentimental thinking about it.  I know my class is excited for my new name and a few have been practicing.

I can't wait for Saturday to be here!!!

Re: a few small things

  • How nice of your coworkers to throw you a surprise shower!  A Macy's gift card is awesome!

I work in a school too and only have 2 days left of being called Ms. maiden name before taking the week off before the wedding.  I've been talking to my students about it and it just plain feels weird.  Some of my kids said that they still want to call me by my current name.  Although my maiden name it's harder to pronounce if you look at it on paper, it is easier to say than my married last name.  Being that I am a speech therapist, that actually makes a difference!

I'm excited to take FI's last name but am sad about losing mine at the same time.

  • What I've found about Men's Wearhouse is that the experience varies A LOT from store to store. We used three because we had people in different towns. The Albany store was a godawful experience and I would never recommend them to anyone, but things were a lot more positive with the stores in Clifton Park and Utica. I'm glad you got to work with one of the good ones!

  • Our men's warehouses stink. They wouldn't even acknowledge me until FI came in the store as well. I am glad you had a good experience though!

  • I'm also a teacher.  We made a countdown on the white board yesterday!  But then afterschool when I wrote my Morning Message for today, I realized that I only have a few days left of being Ms. Maiden Name.  Definitely choked up a little.  Going to be a transition for my first graders (and me too)!

  • Yay for teacher weddings!  I am a teacher too and next week is the end of our first quater.  My students love the idea that I'll come back to second quarter with Mrs. Married Name.

I am a little bit choked up thinking about it. I'm happy to take FI's name, but it is strange to have spent 28 years being Ms. Maiden Name and then BOOM!  New name!

Glad that the tuxes worked out for you, Samantha!

  • This sounds exceptionally dorky, but each day on my way into work I seem to think things like "this is the 9th to last day I'll walk to the train station as Tracey Maiden Name" or "this is my last October 11th as Tracey Maiden Name."

I'm still not ready to change my name - it's been my name for almost 30 years, and I like it better than my new one. (Lukcily though, it's an easy, normal name. It rhymes with my maiden name, so I'm not keeping both becuase it sounds stupid together!)
