So we're heading out to SoCal early Nov for a reception with his family that couldn't make it to the wedding. I've ordered a specialty grooms cake for him as a surprise.
I'm wondering about tipping and how much to tip. H usually tips around 20% - which in this case, would be around $160. We just don't have that kind of money right now. We're struggling to put this meal together to get family off our backs so we can stop penny pinching and start enjoying married life... etc etc.
I also don't want him to know the amount of tip because he'll work out from that the price of the cake....
Would it be rude to tip around $100? that would be over 10% - I know its not a lot but its something I could afford. But, the only way I could reasonably do it - since I don't have a lot of cash, is to phone them a few days later and use my card. Is it rude to tip without cash/have them wait for it? They've already had their payment in full.
Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.
