Wedding Dress - Store Sample

I found a wedding dress that I love,  but is discontinued. I can buy the store sample, for a fraction of the price (Yay!), but it is 4 sizes too big. Has anyone ever bought a store sample and had it reconstructed? If so, how did it turn out and where did you have it done?

Thanks!

I think it depends on how the dress is constructed on how easy it will be to do significant re-sizing/alterations.  4 sizes doesn't sound too bad to me, but I'm not a professional seamstress.  I would ask a seamstress if its possible.

My suggestion. Find another dress you love. God forbid something bad happens with alterations or something else catastrophic. You are stuck. I'm sure you will find another dress you love. You may end up regretting it even though it's a great deal.

Mine was a sample dress. A good seamstress/tailor can take the dress in for you. Four sizes really isn't that much.

I have heard that good seamstresses can do wonders with taking dresses in.  I would call around to some and get their feedback.  I have heard that Yeon from Fashion Stitch is fantastic at "re-building" dresses!

My sister ordered a size 22 for her wedding in Aug 2008.  it came in and when she started fittings Rose Lafferty had to take it in 5 inches!  That's about 5 sizes.  She did an amazing job and the dress retained it's shape/look.  It was amazing.  She's great.
