Northern and Southern Outer Banks-Beaches of North Carolina

I started doing some research on the "Outer Banks" and North Carolina beaches.  While most people may think of the Outer Banks as the area from Carova to Hatteras/Oracoke Island. The Crystal Coast with includes Emerald Isle is also referred to as the Southern Outer Banks. See the information in the links I have included.

I have read past posts where people tell new brides-to-be that ask questions about Emerald Isle and other southern NC beaches that they should post on the North Carolina board. Well, yes I know this board is titled North Carolina-Outer Banks, but why not make all brides that are considering beach weddings in North Carolina feel welcome! Maybe this board should be called North Carolina-Beaches. My guess is that there are not many beach brides on the North Carolina-Raleigh/Durham board. And the North Carolina board is so broad. Maybe there would be more brides/grooms/ mothers of the bride/fathers of the bride seeking information on this board if we would all be open-minded and welcoming to any North Carolina beach wedding question.

So to all the southern North Carolina Outer Banks beach brides...don't be shy...ask your questions! I bet there are plenty of North Carolina beach brides out there with questions and answers that we can all be helpful with the planning of NC beach weddings on one inclusive beach board!

My background..I am a mother of the bride. My daughter was married in June 2012 in Duck. I continue to enjoy reading this board because I had so much fun helping to plan my daughter's wedding. With all the the research I have done, I feel I have a lot to offer. Plus this board did offer helpful information to us in our planning. Just trying to pay it forward and include everyone!

  • I don't think it is anybody's intention to make a bride feel unwelcome and I understand your research as far as what the outer banks includes, but I believe that the Outer Banks area (meaning Duck/Corolla to Hatteras) was given its own board because it ranks as the 3rd top destination wedding spot in the US. Most of the brides seem to be OBX brides from that area. The Crystal Coast is actually closer to Raleigh (about 2 hours) then to the northern OBX (about 5 hours) so I would think that the vendors being discussed on the Raleigh board would actually be more relevant.
  • Thank you seashells.   Yep, Emerald Isle is the Southern Outer Banks.  I still consider myself an OBX bride.  Just a southern OBX/CC bride.  Cool   Nobody really covers the coast on the NC boards so I will hang around here.

Of course we are here to help everyone and we welcome any and all NC beach brides to ask their questions.  I know that the majority of the regular NC board is made up of locals that know the southern beaches better and could possibly offer more insight.  It is pretty well known that when one speaks of the OBX, that it is considered the area from Carova to Hatteras, but as a community of brides, we are here to help anyone.  One of the main reasons this boards title is NC-OBX is b/c it is the #2 destination wedding in the USA and the #1 beach destination wedding in the USA, so naturally they are marketing that to their advantage. Getting TK Gods to change the name of the board entirely would be a miracle.  The Mods can't even get them to fix the "sort by most recent post" issue for the past 2 years.  It became such an issue, that they removed the button entirely.  Either way, we always welcome new posters to ask questions and we will gladly offer as much help as we can.....from Carova to all points south ;)
