    Tanya & Ryan

    2. Your Birthday & Age and Fiance's Birthday and Age
    July 17 {28yrs} & March 19 {28yrs}

    3. City Born In?

    Maple {Canada}

Didn't go :( Went straight into the working field

    6. What was your major?
    N/A

    7. What is your current job?
I'm currently working as a security guard

    8. What is your dream job?
    To become a Police Officer

    9. How did you and your fiance meet?
We've knew each other from church since our late teenage years but didn't really talk to each other. It wasn't until 2 1/2 years ago that we reconnected via facebook when his status changed to single. I messaged him letting him know I was single as well and we've been inseperable ever since

    10.  When did you get engaged and how did he do it??
{September 24, 2011} - We had gotten home from an apointment and I had decided I wanted to get my eyebrows done. My eyebrow lady is in Brampton (near my mom's place) so I asked Ryan if he wanted to come to Brampton with me for the ride (Its about 45 mins from where we live)
He said sure, and that his neck was sore, and since my sister does massage therapy, she could massage him while I get my eyebrows done. Perfect!
So I called my sister to tell her we're on our way over.
When we got to the house, my sister wasn't there. I called her (a little upset) asking why she wasn't home when she knew we were coming. She said we were taking too long so she went to Walmart. Ryan then told her to stay there and we'd come for her.
But when we arrived at Walmart she was nowhere to be found. (By this time I'm soooo frustrated with my sis cuz this is cutting into my eyebrow time)
Ryan then says he wanted hot tea. We ended up driving to the nearby Second Cup in the plaza. As we pulled up, I made mention that this was where we had our first date <3
We approached the desk and the cashier asked for our order. While I'm staring up at the menu boards thinking of what to order, Ryan asks if they have any specials.
The cashier said yes and took out a menu sign saying "Tanya's special Will you marry me? Cost: YES" I was in complete shock, I didn't even notice Ryan on one knee behind me. All of a sudden my sis yells out "just say yes". And that's when I realize my mom, sis, nephew, BIL, one of my bestie's & his sis was all hiding out. My sis was never at Walmart, it was all apart of Ryan's plan! Of course I said yes and bawled like a baby lol

    11. When is the Wedding Day?
    May 18, 2012 {2 months away}

    12. Where is the ceremony and reception?
    Ceremony: Revivaltime Tabernacle in Toronto
Reception: The Hazelton Manor in Vaughan

    13. What are your wedding colors?
    Yellow & Grey (bling)

    14. Where are you honeymooning?
Not sure yet, Ryan's in charge of that. He wants Fiji though

    15. Favorite wedding vendor so far?
The Hall. We actually had an apptointment to check out that venue the day his proposed so its a little sentimental to me and the owners are soooooo accomodating and kind. And not to mention the hall is gorgeous!!!

    16. Biggest wedding splurge.
Photographer/Videographer - That was Ryan's choice because after all is said and done, all we'll have from the day are photos to remember. So he wanted the best of the best

    17. What is something you wish you could have at the wedding but don't?
A horse and carriage. When we were cutting the budget, that was one of the first things to go :(

    18. Another knottie wedding you'd like to attend?
All of them! lol Everyone's wedding sounds so amazing! I've never been to a wedding with someone from a sorority so it would be nice to see.

    19. Favorite book?
    Anything from Eric Jerome Dickey

    20. Favorite movie?
    Love & Basketball

    21. Favorite tv show?
    Rookie Blue

    22. Favorite wedding dress designer?
I wanted a Pnina Tornai but couldn't afford it so I got a close 2nd with Eddy K Milano and I LOVE my dress ;)

    23. Any advice you can give?
Don't think that you are exempt from "family drama". Everyone (including myself) thought "Not my family", think again! Wedding's seem to make people act the fool lol  Don't take it personal. Set them straight and keep it moving

    24. Anything you wish you could change about your wedding?
    I honestly can't think of anything I'd change :)

    25. Share something about yourself!
I used to speak fluent Italian as a child. Ryan and I plan on picking it back up after the wedding and speak it in the household, to give our children (when they come) the benefit of being bilingual

  • Congrats on your wedding! Beautiful engagement story :)
  • I also loved your engagement story.  That was an original idea.  :)   Fiji is on my HM list too.  That is an awesome place.  I had a coworker who was from there.  She said it is beyond beautiful but boring for her.   She said it was too laid back.  I told her if you mean laid back because all you can do is laze around on pristine white sand under palm trees looking at turquoise waters, then that is teh hippest place to me!  LOL!

You mentioned you spoke Italian as a child.  Is that your family background?

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • Tanya, I loved your engagement story. How many children do you and your FI want to have?
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
  • Hi Tanya! We have the same wedding colors! I'm adding an accent of orange but I also plan on lots of bling. Can't wait to see your pictures!

So these may sound like the DUMBEST questions but I am going to ask and ya'll can laugh if you want. I've visited Canada often before the whole passport thing and always said I could live there because it seemed so similar to home.  What is it like living there? Do you think it's much different compared to any  of your experiences in the U.S.? From the stuff we talk about on the boards about our daily life is it the same? Could you live here? I'm just really curious! I think its so cool you live in Canada!

I could do with something nice and laid back right now lol so no complaints from me there.
And to answer your question, no my background is actually Jamaican, but I went to a predominantly Italian school growing up where we were required to take Italian classes. So it was quite funny when ppl in the neighbourhood would talk about my siblings and I not knowing we understood them lol

I want 5, he wants 4 :) if God blesses us with more or less we'll still be happy. FI has 12 nieces and nephews and I have 3 nieces 1 nephew, so there's more than enough kiddies to play with

    Hi,
I don't think its a dumb question at all. Canada and the US are very similar. A lot of people think snow and igloos when referring to Canada but there's not much of a difference weather wise in comparison to you guys. Our dollar is now equal to yours which makes better shopping experiences for us :)
I've considered moving to the US before (ATL to be exact) ,because I've been told its very inspiring seeing young black professionals (doctors, lawyers, business CEOs etc) not saying that we don't have any in Canada but its harder to come by although we are so multicultural. One thing that I really love about living here is the free healthcare. Doctors appointments, hospitalization all covered! And if you have benefits with your job.. bonus lol Another awesome thing we have here is "Baby bonus". Whenever you have a child here, the government issues mothers a monthly cheque to help with child care until the child turns 18!
As far as things I hear from you ladies, there's not much of a difference other than some stores u may have that we don't. It seems the pricing for wedding vendors is higher over here but not by too much. Canada's a beautiful country. I haven't even seen all it has to offer yet. FI and I plan to take a Canadawide trip to experience the coasts of British Columbia to the fresh fish of Nova Scotia.

  • Thanks ladies... my FI got me really good. His sister got everything on camera and my best friends boyfriend (at the time) videotaped the whole thing.
    imageAnniversary Follow Me on Pinterest
  • Tanya!  Your special day is right around the corner and I am so excited for you!  I totally agree with you and the family drama and I too thought I was exempt but boy was I wrong.  I've learned to just not lose sight of the reason for it all.

That is so cool that you can speak Italian and want to pick it back up.

How big is your bridal party?  Are they wearing long/short dresses?  Do you have a picture of your dress and their dresses?

  • Thanks Esha! Yours isn't that far off either.... sooo exciting!
FI always makes fun of us saying we have a bridal party of 45 lol but in all reality it's 1  MOH, 7 BMs, 1 FG
    here's their dresses

(thats my cousin in her dress)

I had to remove the pic of me in my dress just in case FI stumbles on it, but here's what mine looks like

  • Baby bonus!! Wow... The US is so far behind!! That is great. I've also loved the idea of universal healthcare, and it sounds like you have no problems with it.

Then,.. speaking Italian! Wow. I love learning new languages, and Italian is right up there. I'm sure you'll pick it right up. Our wedding has turned into an Italian (slash overall international) theme.

Finally, Wow! I LOVE the proposal story. That was so creative of him! :) Sounds like you are really on your way to a great life together! So nice to meet you Tanya!!
