Favorite Hotel?

What is everyone's favorite place to stay in Vegas and why? I'm trying to decide where we are going to stay!

p.s. Has anyone stayed at the new hotel Aria? My boss just got back from Vegas yesterday and said it was really nice.Smile

You should probably tell us more about what you like in a hotel first because vegas has anything and everything and one person's top pick could be another's would never stay there again pick even at the same price.

I personally stay at the Palms most of the time because I like the younger crowd that's typically there, I am in love with N9NE steak house so I might eat there several times on a given trip, I like two of thier night clubs, the rooms are very contemporary and nice, rates are usually good, non-smoking poker room and you might see celebrities or sports stars (I played craps with Nelly once).  Their Friday pool party is pretty wild.  I'm a gambler though and get comped on things so that has something to do with me continuing to go back there probably; I would not like it as much if I had to stand in line for an hour to get in a club.  Big downside to the Palms is if you're going out there to do a lot of the tourist stuff, you're going to need a rental car and will then be spending a lot on tipping valets or taking cabs back and forth to the strip which can add up.

If you do want to stay on the strip, Caesars newer rooms are very nice and you're dead center on the strip and things to do, so I usually stay there if I'm going with people who haven't been before so that we can walk to quite a bit.  You want to be in one of the newer towers though, the older rooms are not that nice, the new ones are really great, I even bought my current mattress at home after loving the one at caesars enough to strip the sheets off and see what it was when I was checking out. :-)  Great shopping there and an easy walk away in Venetian's mall too.  Reason I don't like Caesars is because they rarely have $5 craps, even at night, which makes me go elsewhere and if I'm not playing where I'm staying then I'm not getting comps.

Stayed at several other places but those two are the frequent ones.

I stayed at Caesars when I got married.  It is a beautiful hotel, and the rooms are great, but it doesn't have a very young feel to it.

I gambled over at Planet Hollywood, and loved it over there. It has a much younger vibe, and is smack in the middle of the strip.  I want to stay there the next time I go to Vegas.

Be aware that where ever you stay, your guests will probably want to stay near you. This was a big reason I chose MB over Wynn. I never told our guests where to stay, but they automatically wanted to stay near us, and MB is cheaper than the Wynn, so I felt that I was giving guests an affordable option.

Oh, yeah, if the question was related to wedding planning then that changes things.  MB is nice in that case because its connected to Luxor and Excalibur too which can be much cheaper than MB so guests have several options while still being easily connected.

I like staying at Bill's Gamblin Hall.  It's clean, mid-strip, cheap, and it literally takes me 2 min to get from my room to the strip.

Yeah its wedding planning related! I want to stay somewhere that is in a good location on the strip... preferably in the middle, somewhere with nice rooms but probably less than $200 a night. I was thinking about the MGM, Aria, Paris or Planet Hollywood??

Well, let's see. I am also a gambler and get most things comped. There is a Harrah's property close to my house so that is where I go to do my gambling up here. This leads to free rooms all the time. I love the Red Rooms at Paris. Planet Hollywood is great as Olivea stated. It is clean and a super young vibe. Caesar's is very nice and the pool is spectacular.

Aria and Vdara are both very new and beatiful, but be aware that you will walk a long way to get out of the city center. It seems like you are walking forever to get out onto The Strip.

I agree with D about Mandalay Bay. That was a huge factor when we decided to get married there. I figured that Mandalay is connected to Luxor and Excalibur by the Monorail, so guests could pick where they wanted to stay. Most of my guests love Excalibur for gaming, because of the cheap tables...LOL.

My favorite hotel is the Wynn. It is spectacular. I could not justify spending that amount of money for the wedding though.

out of the choices you listed, I'd stay at PH.  Like Olivea said, its younger and alot of fun.

I wouldn't consider MGM near the middle of the strip...at all.  I really liked staying there when my dad got married there, but it was a bit of a walk if you wanted to see anything else - and the stretch on the MGM side of the street between MGM and PH is super sketchy.  I hate it.

I haven't seen a room at Aria but the hotel itself is amazing - definitely the nicest on the strip, but its also the newest, so that's probably a given.

Its just a personal thing, but I'm not a fan of Paris.

Hmm - it depends on what you want...Although I love Bellagio & Wynn, I had to consider my guests budgets as well as my own.

Thankfully my other favorite - THEhotel - is located on the MB property, which also includes the 4 Seasons.  The monorail to Luxor & Excalibur give my guests 5 hotels to choose from.

I called group resevations at MB and after I finally got hold of someone (they're super busy, but really nice when you get them!) and they set us up with a really great room block for our guests. But have your guests check out room/airfare deals through Southwest vacations or Orbitz....great deals to be had out there!

As for costs - def investigate what conventions will be in town during your stay as it will directly affect the cost of your rooms.  FYI - Sept -Nov is prime convention season! Rooms can easily be double what they normally cost.  July-August are cheaper, but look out for concert crowds at MB & pool parties @ Palms & Hard Rock.  Dec-Jan are also slow months (minus New Year's).

    Hope this helps!

im leaving for a scouting trip on monday and we are staying at Aria.  i cant wait!!  i will try to post pics of our room when we get back.

ur budget is $200/night...you have tons of options.

every hotel is hurting for business so if im sure they are willing to work with you in blocking rooms for a rate you and your guests can afford.

middle of the strip is where its at...thats vegas!!  any hotel is great.

ive stayed at Luxor, MB, excalibur, MGM, TI, and Paris.  all are awesome.

    Hey sun,

If you decide PH go to the twitter page. I think it is @phvegas, they post pretty good deals on there. I think last time it was $79 a night through the week for a Hollywood Hip. Plus, the front desk tip works wonders there. One time we were upgraded from a Hollywood Hip to a Resort Room. The second time we were upgraded to a Strip Suite.

    Hi red,

If you do not mind me asking, can you tell me what the rate was for the room block? I am trying to see what is the cheapest way to go for my guests.

    Thanks!!

We've only been to Vegas twice and stayed at the MGM Grand both times. Both times in a West Wing room. Loved it but the bathroom is not very private and the walk to the elevator went on forever! The rooms are very modern and were new the first time we went. I love the pools at the MGM Grand though ... I think there are 5. Lazy river and an adults only pools (not nude or anything, just no children allowed). For the wedding week we are staying at the Signature at MGM which was not built last time we were there, and Caesars as part of the wedding package.

PH does seem to have a younger feel and I'd like to stay there or TI the next time we go. We don't gamble that much, but I'd like to go somewhere that has cheap gambling in case we want to start out slow.

I'd love to stay at the Wynn some time, but cannot justify the cost!

We always stay at Bills Gamblin Hall for our vacations because its super affordable and the location CANNOT be beat for the price you pay (it's directly across from Caesars, connected to Flamingo). The elevators drop you off literally right next to the door that leads to the strip, so its so easy to get anywhere, the rooms are really spacious and clean.  They are decorated in an old-west theme tho, so that may bug some people.

For the wedding tho we are not staying there, just cus we want something more special for our "honeymoon".  We were going to stay at Wynn because its amazing and we get a great discount for getting married there, but once we checked out the website for the new hotel Cosmopolitan that is opening in December, we chose that instead of Wynn for our wedding trip (after we check out of the Vista Suite at MB - thats where our reception is).  Cosmo has terraces on every room that have amazing views, and it's right next to Bellagio, which is just as good of a location as Bills, but a brand new hotel, and the prices are awesome, so we couldn't pass it up.  We are staying at MB just cus we are already paying for it for the reception...but I wouldn't want to stay there or at MGM any other time because it's so far away from everything.

    Hope that helps!

We've stayed at MGM (too far down the strip) and Caesars (too big).  I wanted to stay at Bellagio for our wedding but in the interest of keeping costs reasonable for guests we ended up with Mirage.  Almost all of our guests stayed at the same hotel as us.  We LOVED Mirage.  It is the first time we want to go back to the same hotel.  The location could not be beat and the pool is gorgeous.

all depends what you like...I've never stayed at the same place. FI and I like to try a new place every time.

Monte Carlo - very nice room, affordable, GREAT water pressure in shower. Oh, and you get some really great coupons for food and drinks

NYNY - the room we got was a bit small, fun atmosphere

Hooters - fine if you want something cheap and slightly off the strip

Luxor - freaky side-ways elevator, a bit away from the center of the strip

Rio - HUGE room, off-the strip BUT there's a free shuttle that will take you to Paris or Harrah's. AND they have an AWESOME buffet!

The Venetian and Palazzo are my favorite. Every room is a suite. I love the casino too. If you book by sept something the rooms are 139$ a night.

    I have stayed...

The Golden Nugget - Great if you want to be near Fremont Street

Stratosphere - Great if you want to be near some of the Stand Alone Chapels

Mandalay Bay - Great because like many PP's have said, your guest can stay close at more affordable options.

Excalibur - Not may favorite but a very affordale option for guest.

I'm also very curious about this as I wasn't able to get any room blocks for our guests - actually I could get room blocks but they would only hold them for 10 days and then release them which was kind of useless to us.

Ive stayed at Luxor and Planet Hollywood so far and will be at Caesars Palace for our wedding. I didn't care for Luxor at all. Granted we got a fab deal but it seemed like it took FOREVER just to get to NYNY & MGM let alone the center of the strip. Didnt help the entire time we were there the monorail between MB Luxor & Excalibur was broke down. Planet Hollywood was amazing though. We got a free room upgrade through vegas.com so we had a fountain view room. I loved the location and everything PH had to offer..we loved Yolos and Pinks and Miracle Mile shops were awesome. After staying in the center I don't think I could ever stay anywhere else...its just so much more easier to get to either the north or south ends and theres more cheaper hotels in the center (harrahs ballys flamingo).

And I've been DYING to stay at Bills! It would be so nice to be so close to those 99 cent margaritas!!

    Hiya,

We stayed at the Bellagio and got married there in April 09, all i can say it was well worth all the money we paid and more, they treated us like royalty from the moment we check in to the moment we left and I was thrilled with my experience there.   Our family & friends all stayed in the Luxor, even though this is the other end of the strip we didn't find it a problem all meeting up, the duece is frequent and stops right outside the Bellagio and Luxor, so it was only a couple of minutes away.  F&F said the rooms where really nice, and clean and that they were happy with the choice of hotel.

We returned in April this year for our 1st wedding anniversary, and we didn't want to stay in the Bellagio again, as we wanted to try another hotel plus, we are planning to stay there on our 'big' anniversaries so it remains a special place for us and not just a holiday hotel.  Anyway, when we went this year we stayed at Planet Hollywood with a room over looking the fountains at Bellagio.  The hotel was ok, not the best i've stayed in, but reasonable enough.  Views from the hotel are amazing!

We're locals, so the only place we've stayed was at theHotel at Mandalay Bay the weekend of our wedding.  We were getting married at MB and decided to stay on the property for the convenience.  We loved the room we had and the service was outstanding.

Even though MB is at the southern-most end of the Strip, you do have quick access to several hotels.  You can also catch the monorail at the MGM, which isn't difficult to get to from MB.

    HTH!

If you haven't already, you really should sign up for the unpublished deals that Vegas Tripping sends out via email.  Here are just a few of the vegas twitters worth following: @phvegas, @TIvegas, @vegastripping.  PH, TI, and MGM all tweet out hotel deals all the time.

This is one of the better maps to give you an idea of where the hotels on the strip are: http://www.vegastripping.com/thestrip/

The key to great deals is watching the sales.  We were able to get 25% off room rates at Encore which made it far more affordable than if we just went to a travel site and booked rooms.  Our guests were able to get rooms at TI and Monte Carlo for around $100/night on a weekend.

I guess I need to wait to book hotel rooms to find deals because our wedding isn't for another 8 1/2 months! Every website I go to that has a special promotion.. it ends way before our wedding month. I'm just worried if I keep waiting and I dont book hotel rooms now, there wont be any available! Undecided

Oh sure!  Just keep in mind we're looking at December during a slow week
Our rates at MB (Thursday through Sunday) are for standard rooms

    Thurs: $150
    Fri:$160
    Sat:$160
    Sun$90

We also have suites available at THEhotel for those who want them.

    Thurs:$200
    Fri:$200
    Sat:$200
    Sun$120

We reserved 40 rooms, because we'll have about 60-70 guests and many of them are flying in from overseas.

***BUT***  I'm picking up the tab for a couple of relatives & have found that sometimes using the hotel/airfare vacaton packegs via Southwest or United or Orbitz are a better deal!  Example: 2 RT airfare (New Orleans to LV) & standard room at MB for Thurs-Sun came out to about $1000 on Southwest. RT airfare averages about $600 pp, so this was a better deal by far.

    Hope this helps!Smile

Oh forgot to mention - I first called group services in late March when our wedding was originally planned for July 31. (as soon as we had to reschedule, I called & they just moved the block to the new dates.) So reserving a room block far in advance is not too much a problem. (Keep in mind - we're NOT getting married during a convention week - most places probably won't do small room blocks during those times because, well, frankly they're either sold out or can make full price on the rooms by selling them to convention attendees.  So be sure to do your research...)

I spoke with Jim & via email with Millie (both super nice!)  but like I said, its hard to get hold of them as they're usually dealing with convention room blocks and they're not in on weekends.

The my room block does require the guests put down a 1night deposit at booking & there's a 48hr cancellation policy....oh and the unused rooms are released back into circulation 1 month before our wedding.  I just hope our guest list doesn't keep growing!

    Smile
