NWR: Christmas gift question

DH has mentioned that he wants to start playing more board games or card games...or any other game that comes in a box really. We have people over occassionally but not super often, so I am looking for games that are good for multiple players and possibly some suggestions for 2 players.

Unpopular opinion: I hate clue and pictionary (or anything similar to pictionary). What are your favorites/ what would you suggest?

Oooh, Payday was my favorite growing up. Game of Life is ok, but Jenga is my favorite for company.

Apples to Apples is always good for groups. If you like trivia, Trival Pursuit is my favorite. Yahtzee is fun too!

Mexican Train dominoes! Better for when company is over, but really fun and easy to learn.

I have played Apples to Apples at my in-laws it's fun

I also like Taboo. It's pretty fun, you have to get your "partner" to guess a word you are describing without using 5 or 6 forbidden words (all words that would be easy to use to describe the word). If you saw "Four Christmases", they play it in that movie.

Another vote for Apples 2 Apples. For two people, I love Othello. It's harder than checkers, but not as hard as chess. I also like Trivial Pursuit and Scattegories.

I went to a party last month and we played "Loaded Questions" adult version. It was so much fun that my sister asked for it for Christmas (and I'm a bit jealous because now I want it!) It's not a 2 person game, though.

I also agree with Apples to Apples and Jenga!

[QUOTE]My FI loves board games and always says we should get more! We always play catchphrase (the elecctronic version) when we have a group of people over! And many times I whip out the Apples to Apples as well. On Thanksgiving, we went to FMIL's house and she had a board game called Rummikub (pronounced rummy-cube) and it was really fun. It's basically like rummy but you use tiles and lay them out on the table. I like it because it requires some skill and thought, not just luck. We are planning on picking up one for ourselves next time we go to the store :)

I love love love Catch Phrase. And Rummikub is very fun also, I love it for the same reasons you listed too!

I agree with Catchphrase. I'm also a fan of the classics, like Life and Clue. Or what about something like Cranium?

I love scrabble! What about Uno? That one really seems to get people pissed at each other, in a good way of course!

Funny story...at Thanksgiving some women in my family were talking about their love for skip-bo and DH whispered to me, "What the heck is skip-bo?" I love that game and forgot about it. I think this will be a stocking stuffer.

Thank you for all the suggestions. We have Apples 2 Apples and it is my favorite but I always forget about it. I will probably pick up catch phrase, I used to always play that with my friends in highschool and it was a lot of fun. I love scrabble but DH can't spell to save his life so I will save that argument and keep playing that with other people :) I'll definitely look into the other suggestions and pick up one of 2 more as well.

I know I'm a few days late, but Partini is a fun game. There are 5 different little games inside. You draw a card to see which one you will play next. There is a clay sculpting, "beer pong" like game, one does have acting, one is humming, and something else.

I'm NOT one to act, draw, sing, etc...but it's very minimum, so I still love to play.
