Labels for invites??

I have wasted enough time deciding To put labels on my invitations or splurging the 400 to have my invites printed. IMO the envelope immediately goes into the garbage and personally I have never ever turned my nose up at a label or hand written invite. Help!!!!

I absolutely agree that the envelope goes in the garbage.

Can you print onto the envelopes yourself? That's what we did. I was going to go a step further and trace over the printed text with a fine point Sharpie (it was calligraphy style font) and decided that was a waste of time. They looked fine, they were done, they didn't cost me a bunch of money other than an ink cartridge.

Otherwise, I personally don't have a problem with labels, I've gotten wedding invites with labels and my only thought was being excited to see the invitation inside. You could always do wrap around labels if you want a fancier look.

We bought clear labels at staples and then I used the script font and printed them out. The labels cost maybe $5 and it didn't take me much time to type out the addresses. I also did this for the response envelopes as well.

I see no problem with it. Like you said, the envelope goes right in the trash.

I did receive a wedding invitation recently that had a printed label but it was TINY...like a return address label....used as the mailing address label. So I thought that was odd. So my advice, if you print a label on the computer...use something a little bigger than a tiny return address label haha. But I imagine most people would anyway.

I'm far from the invitation stage in my planning but I'll probably run the envelopes through the printer. My handwriting is OK but my hand will cramp is I try to write out that many addresses! And I always spell something wrong when I'm handwriting it....stage fright maybe. hahaha

Do what is right for you. I had the envelopes printed (at $1 each) and honestly, I could've done it myself (and did so for the STDs and TYs). Looking back, stationery is one of the things I would spend less on next time. And PP is right... once you type them in you have the file for other stuff too. GL!

Although it's an etiquette no no I personally agree with you. We tried printing on the envelopes and it didn't work so we used labels. I was not paying someone $1 a line to to write addresses for me and if I did them myself people would have thought they were getting mail from a serial killer because of my crappy writing.

I did this too! And they looked fine! I bought the Delphine Groupon way back when and with the invitation option I chose, I was able to have my return address printed on the response envelopes so I used the clear labels and it was great!

I did the same! I spent entirely too much time going back and forth on what was "proper" or "good etiquette" and finally just decide I didn't care anymore. I hardly doubt that my guests will be judging something they are going to throw out and if they are... well, they don't need to come LOL

I think it's your choice what you decide to do with your envelopes. I personally did not want to use labels and instead hired a calligrapher. I used Dani Writes, who was FANTASTIC, and charged me only a $1.00 an envelope.

Yes, I could have put that 80something dollars elsewhere but I'm so happy I did it. My guests are raving about how beautiful the envelope looks and that makes me really happy.

I was lucky enough that my FMIL has amazing penmanship, so she wrote ours by hand. Theres something to be said for a handwritten envelope but honestly, it does go into the trash so quickly!

My friend had a printing company print the labels with a font on the envelope that makes it look like everyone was hand written, it looks very personal.

Thank you for posting this! I figured it was poor etiquette but I am not looking forward to trying to write nicely on the envelopes. I will go through so many just trying to spell something right and starting over when I don't. After seeing the responses here, I think we'll be in the clear with using labels.

I also did this for the response envelopes as well. Not only did we do that, we put the file on a flash drive and staples even printed it. They printed a few test samples so we could see it well. They matched the color of the ink and the font on the invitation as well. Printed write on the envelpe. I was so happy we did it for all our sationary. Was totally worth it and really not that expensive at all. I just kept the lables. Good luck let us know.

OP, definitely check out Dani Writes! She charges just $1 an envelope, not $4-5 like other calligraphers. And her work is beautiful! We figured we'd spend nearly as much in ink cartridges so it was definitely worth it to have one less thing to worry about.

I just recently sent mine out and I bought clear labels and printed in a script font! I couldnt see spending soo much on something that gets instantly ripped.

I'm not even close to sending invites or even STDs, but I know for sure that I'll be printing the labels myself. While I pride myself on having good penmanship, I don't have the attention span or patience to write out the addresses! Check out dafont.com for free font downloads. I downloaded a few the other day that are perfect for wedding invites.
