Need to update my mother's wedding dress!

I'm so excited and honored to have the opportunity to wear my mother's wedding dress! However, it needs some serious updating! And since I have NO eye for that kind of alteration, I'm looking for a steamstress who can look at the dress on me and recommend ways to update it and make it my own!

Any advice or suggestions?? Thanks!

    I used Sheryl Kelm in Pasadena, MD for my alterations. I only needed basic stuff, but Sheryl also does totally custom dresses. She's wonderfully friendly and affordable, and I highly recommend her. kelmdesigner@comcast.net

    New exactly what I wanted, but I bought a strapless dress and had long-sleeves added to it at Ellie's Bridal Boutique in Alexandria. I ended up with the perfect dress and you would never know that it was originally designed to be strapless! If they could do that, I'm sure they can do anything.
