Reception location on the western slope?

hello!

my fiance and i were recently engaged (july 1st!).  I live in North Carolina and he lives in Mississippi.  his parents are in Grand Junction and we'd love to have the wedding near there.  we have a few ideas for ceremony location (his parents backyard, the monument, etc) but we're not sure where to have the reception.

we'd love some recommendations on unique or fun places to have the reception.  we tend to lean away from convention center or hotel ballroom type locations.  we're planning our wedding for the fall of 2012.  we love the outdoors, and the idea of a 'rustic' style location is very attractive to us.

any help we could get would be very much appreciated.  especially since we're both so far away hehe

thanks!!  :D

There are a TON of vineyards nearby. One is called Amy's Courtyard and it's pretty. Go to the Grand Junction visitor website and click Wine Country, then Wineries. Click through until you find one you like!

thanks, i've looked through all those already and exhausted just about every resource i can find through google.

we're looking to see if there's a unique place that's more locally known that we may be missing because its not advirtised online.

or if anyone has any personal experiences at a reception location and could give us a review on the place. :)

    thanks!

To be honest there's really not much here. Vineyards and orchards are pretty much what we're famous for, other than the monument and the mesa. I would check into Powderhorn. It's a ski resort during the winter but really pretty during spring/summer/fall. To be honest with you, if you're going to have a fall wedding I'd pick somewhere up in the mountains. Personally, I LOVE the fall leaves and their colors and I think it'd be gorgeous. (even though I'm getting married in May! lol)

There's not many "rustic" places here other than the vineyards. Trust me, I tried, we are having a vintage wedding. A lot of the historic buildings were either torn down or renovated and turned into something else. There's really no special local place to speak of. It sucks, I know. Grand Junction is a little hillbilly in that respect!

I wish you luck in your search, I exhausted every resource as well and I finally had to settle on a reception hall or hotel ballroom.

dang, that's a bummer!  thanks for your help though... there are some beautiful vinyards and orchards, we'll look at some more of those next time we're out there.

powderhorne is on our list of places to check out too.  my fiance is from grand junction and that was one of the first places he thought of.

he went to CSU, so we were looking for places around ft collins also.  there's been mention of a place called mcc ranch in loveland.  the pictures i've seen look awesome, so that place is pretty high on our list too.

it's proven difficult to find a pretty AND affordable venue in colorado (some of the venue rental fees are more than our ENTIRE BUDGET!!!).  apparently it's pretty high on the destination wedding list.  not to mention that planning from NC/MS is going to be a logistical nightmare... haha

I'm originally from GJ and having my wedding back there next fall as well.  Have you thought about the Avalon?  I haven't been in there in AGES, but I understand it's undergone a renovation and is actually still quite nice inside.

We considered having our ceremony and reception at the James Robb state park in Fruita, it's next to the river and they have a very nice space with a covered area that has electricity and tables/picnic tables, and restrooms close.  You can't reserve until Jan. but the cost of the site for the whole day was like $150, so maybe worth checking out if you haven't already...and if you're interested in the outdoors.

I've also heard that Rick Schroeder rents out his lodge/cabins up on the Monument for vacations and weddings.

I was going to suggest the redstone castle in redstone (btwn glenwood spgs and aspen) but apparently they're still renovating and only open for tours.  It's a beautiful place.

Good luck on your planning!  I know your pain trying to plan a wedding in GJ while living out east!!

HAHA, No kidding, or out here since we appear to live in the same region!  Let me know what you find out there, I'd be happy to share if I find any good deals out that way as well!

I'm from GJ and had difficulty choosing a GJ location (we're getting married in Breckenridge next summer instead since fiance wanted the mountains).  I've heard redlands community center is afordable and can be cute.  Also, Lincoln park golf course (on the cheap end, but has a pretty rose garden). Chipeta golf course might be cheaper too.  I looked at Wine country inn and it is pretty but the ballroom is small.  If I were looking just for a reception site, I'd vote for the chateau at two rivers winery.  Loved the reception site, hated the ceremony area.  there's also a cute B&B that would be pretty for weddings.  I think it's called willow pond (?) good luck!

A couple of ideas that we had were Enterprise Hall in Fruita (you can find their website on google), Western Colorado Botanical Garden, and the Redlands Community Center. All of the local golf courses offer wedding packages, and some of them are fairly inexpensive. There are a couple of local bridal shows early in January & February that have a TON of information on local vendors. If you can make a trip, I would highly recommend going to it.
