Which is Tackier?

Just for fun (and to help get Amoro out of her boredom slump)

Re: Which is Tackier?

  • I need an 'all of the above' option...

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I'm with Lynda on this---I need an all of the above option--those are all ridiculously tacky.

  • I know, they're all outrageous in my book.

i just was thinking about it since I've witnessed all of those myself in the last year.

plus, whoever suggested that etiquettehell.com site earlier inspired me.

  • I recently got an invitation to a wedding from a girl I went to college with. Not only was I only invited to the ceremony and not the reception, but she had "Cash in lieu of gifts would be appreciated as the couple is saving to buy a home"  written on the bottom of the invite.

    Hi Jeanna!!

Umm--that's tacky, but even worse to actually print it on the bottom of an invitation.

  • tell me about it. i wanted to send her an etiquette book as a wedding present but i decided i shouldnt spend a dime on her. i dont understand how people think that's ok.

  • I guess I'd pick 4 because it really effects the largest amount of people.  However, I think not having enough food is the worst part - it's difficult as a guest to always know how much was spent on a dress.  It could be a $2000 dress, but if she bought it second hand, it could have cost her much less.

But in your case, anna, that's awful.

  • I think the B-list is pretty tacky, but the big expensive dress/ cheap meal is the worst.
  • The cheap meal thing would get me the best. Because the gesture would scream that the "pretty princess" dress on her for one day means more than the presence of any of the guests. Especially since the reception as a whole is the bulk of the wedding.
They're all bad, but I'm just saying I'd be pissed to be eating pigs in a blanket while she takes phots in a dress thats more than two months of my rent.
Night swimming in the ocean= pretty sweet reception!
  • I'd say the dress is the worst.
  • I would have to say all of the above also!

  • I went to a wedding where the main course was a salad and yes, she was in a pretty, pretty princess dress.

I EAT REAL FOOD. That was terrible.
  • I voted for the B-list invitation, mainly becasue I have actually had it happen to me -- and it was addressed to my parents with my name on the inner envelope, even though the bride in question knew I was engaged.
And despite what it looks like, unless you financed it the dress and the reception, you never really know how much the bride paid for anything.
