feeling like I'm so far behind!!!

Where are all of you ladies at in planning?! I'm still trying to THINK of venues! I'm from such a small area and there isn't much here at all..I wanted to do a church ceremony and the reception elsewhere so that I don't have all the church restrictions....but now I'm contemplating just doing it all not in the church. We haven't even had our engagement pictures done..the only thing I've done is well nothing. I found my dress but I can't place an order for it until income taxes are back. And FI is basically handling the rest of the tab himself and his money won't be free until March. I can think and write things down all day but it doesn't get me anywhere. I can't rightly go out and interview florists and caterers etc if I'm not ready for a down payment can I? Just feeling a little lost and way behind hahaha

  • I think before you do any of the side vendors, you need to figure out your venue.  When you talk to other vendors, they will need to know your date and that can't be set until you have your venue figured out.  You still have enough time to get all the little things taken care of, so don't stress too much.  Focus on the main things that need to get done and go from there.

  • its okay....just breathe. Im in your boat. Not much is done on paper,...just in my head and until that lovely refund from the government comes back. i have yet to set a venue. Although I did a bunch of research last year and my preferred venue does have my date and time on hold for me. its still just on hold without a deposit. You still have plenty of time. Dont stress too much.  :)
  • See in my area there aren't any 'venues' to choose from persay...its like you have a few county buildings or your friends yard..its not like people are booking these places in advance like THAT...most people just get married in the church with a cake punch and finger sandwich reception..

  • It says you are from Atlanta, so I am guessing outskirts, you may have to travel a bit for a venue but it might be worth it. How many people are you having? Which side of Atlanta are you on?

Im not in the same boat at you but I do have to say that Im also waiting on some money to free up before i can do anything more right now. Ive been planning my wedding for over a year now so Ive had plenty of time to get things done. There is still alot of things i need to finish though. Once you figure out your venue everything will work out. Good Luck and keep us update.

  • When I signed up for The Knot it gave me two choices if I was from Georgia...ATL (approx 2.5 hours away) or Savannah (approx 4 hours away)....so no not even the outskirts. I live about 7 minutes away from President Jimmy Carter...and you'd think with him being from here they'd have something in the area..but no the closest WalMart's 30 mins..and forget about Michaels or Hobby Lobby..or anything wedding related..that's an hour(minimum)!

  • I agree with pp, you need to lock down a venue before you do anything else as every single vendor will want to know a solid date and venue before they can quote you and know they are available. A lot of places will hold a date with out a deposit until some one else inquires about it. If you can at least get that done you can move on to music food flowers etc good luck !
  • I'm not sure what you're looking for specifically, but if there's no "traditional" banquet halls near your area, maybe:

    Country clubs

  • Are there any public parks near you? I've seen in magazines really pretty tent weddings at public parks. Use google to help you with your wedding planning. I just googled "wedding venues in plains, GA" and it came up with a pretty plantation house turned into a wedding venue (Ocala House in Leesburg) and they can provide DJ/florist, etc. I don't think it's a bad thing to get married in someone's backyard. I've had 2 friends do that in the last year and neither of them regret it. It'll make it more intimate and you can decorate as little or as much as you want-- no restrictions! Good luck!

  • The Ocala house is too far from our Ceremony site. We're getting married in a church in Ellaville GA. Not to mention its way out of the budget for hosting JUST the reception there..

  • dont stress out, things will work itself out!
i only just started my planning process earlier this month, and when you think about everything that needs to be done it can be pretty stressful.
You can ask for quotes even if your not ready to put down a deposit. the only thing is that if you find something you love and they are booking up fast, you may want to have a backup plan just in case they book for your date. if they ask about when you want to pay the deposit you can tell them you are just pricing so that you can find the right vendor, most places will understand that. if you are set on one vendor, let them know your situation and see if they will work something out with you.
    good luck in your planning!

  • Dont be streesed out , you will find some good wedding venues. You just need to figure out and contact some good vendors in your locality.  So just keep yourself calm as there is enough time in your wedding, also prepare your guest list and prepare your wedding menu for guests. Focus on main things and don't develop negativity in yourself.
