NWR - Flu

55 days until my wedding and I have come down with what I assume is the flu. I have never had the flu before (I'm 32) and from all my symptoms (headache, high fever, chest congestion, dry cough, chills) I would assume it's the flu.  Anyone else had the flu this year?  How long did it last?  What did you take to ease your symptoms?

I will say that this flu stuff is no fun.

Re: NWR - Flu

  • Oh no! I've never had the flu (I'm 36) either, but it sounds like it is. I'm not sure what you could take, but get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids. Hope you feel better soon!
  • Feel better!  I've had the 24 hour flu before.  I drink ginger ale and eat saltine crackers to settle my stomach and eat lots of soup and sleep.

  • I had the flu for the first time this year, and I had a really hard time getting rid of it. I had it for a week and a half before I went to Mexico, and it went away the first day I was there, but as soon as I got back to MN I had it again, but it was a much milder form.
I think I was so stressed with everything, that I didn't give my body a chance to get rid of it.

  • I've had the flu before and it lasted a couple to a few weeks. I say go to the doctor asap so he can get you the right medicine.

  • Lots of fluids and lots of rest are the best way to get rid of the flu. If its unbearable, go to the doctor. If it really is the flu, they can prescribe Tamiflu. If you do get the Tamiflu, make sure to ask for some Zofran with it, the Tamiflu has a lot of GI side effects.

  • Oh no! I hope you feel better soon! I don't think i have had the flu before, mostly bad colds and 24 hour bugs.

  • My FI had it this year and I've had it before.  Sleep sleep sleep is really important.  Your body is telling you it's worn out, so get some needed rest.  Also ginger ale or some type of electrolyte drinks (smartwater, gatorade) also Emergen-C is fantastic.  It's just a vitamin/mineral packet that you stir in water that is huge doses of vits/mins to help your system get back on track.

    Feel better very soon!
