Hello ladies,

Looking at this venue for a Fall 2011 wedding; anyone been to or had their wedding here? Thanks!

I was there for a wedding a few years ago.  I have to say we were disappointed as guests....I am not sure if it was the package the bride and groom chose or what, but we expected better service and better food for this type of place. I had been there before for dinner and had been very impressed, so was definitely disappointed with the service and quality of food.  Also, for the cocktail hour, guests had to walk through the main restaurant into a very cramped area near the bar and there was very little food...and nowhere really for people to sit.  Good Luck!

I have never been there for a wedding, but have been there a few times to eat. DH's boss had his small wedding here, and he was happy with the place, so I figured I'd check it out.

Anyway, it's pretty. The grounds are beautiful and they have a few B&B rooms onsite. All good points.

But, depending on when you want your day to be, it might be too much money, or not a desireable location. We were loking for a Saturday night in June. The price they wanted was more than we wanted to spend. (And the package included less than other places I had seen) The minimum was higher than we wanted. But, mostly they didn't make it to our next-step list because they told us we would have to be downstairs. Which I did not like at all.

The main restaurant floor I think is available for Sunday daytime weddings, (and a few other times) but not Saturday night.

    So we didn't go farther.

Overall, I think the place is pretty, but I think the main level is much nicer. I felt the downstairs was, well, more like a basement afterthought. It still could be nice. And if you want Kittlehouse then it's great. But I was doing an open-minded search and had seen more nicer looking venues in my search.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! Any other venues in mind that made it onto your list in the end? Thanks again!

I researched close to 70 places and visted around 40. (Yes, I know = crazy)

What type of place are you looking for? Or if you are open to the type, what area and how many guests are you looking at?

    I loved the venue search.

A lot of places got ruled out because of their per person cost. (In the beginning, were were looking for around 140 people. so 150 minimums were ok, 125s were even better. we ended up with 104. so truct me, we are very happy we did not book a place with a 150 person minimum!)

But, anyway, our "Top 7" were -

    Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel in Poughkeepsie

    Villa Borghese in Wappingers Falls

    Dutchess Manor in Beacon

Chalet on the Hudson in Cold Spring

Putnam National Golf Club in Mahopac

Hollowbrook Golf Club in Cortlandt Manor

    and

    Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury

We ended up at Putnam National and they did an amazing job.

(A word about The Links... I really liked the Links. My dad had heard about it and wanted to see it because they did a great job. But, after lots of talking about who would actually be coming to our wedding, ie. my friends, elderly family members, Joe's family from the Bronx, we decided it was just to far away to coordinate with.  The coordinator there is super nice, and the room and bridal suite are the "prettiest" I have ever seen (including the venue we went with!), but sometimes hotels and shuttle busses are not the answer that works for everyone. So we had to take it out of consideration, so it never made my top 7 list. And the way it worked out was good - we never would have made their minimum anyway (the 100 that came to PNGC, would not have al came to the Links. And aother bride did go there, so it all works out. Figured I'd point that out before I got asked why that venue didn't appear. )

Anyway, this was my top list, and after considering each place, and the "vision" I wanted for my wedding day, Putnam Nation Golf Club was a great choice!

But, this was my list. I wanted the traditional banquet hall type of thing.

    What are you looking for?
