Stations or Sit Down?

I know the differences and I know they are two totally different type of receptions, but which do you prefer?

Thanks in advance :)

Im doing stations because I like that the guests get more choices for food. Not just the typical "chicken or fish" and they get to wait until they get there that day and see the food to make their choices.

Thanks :)  I'm back and fourth between the two.

stations make a more casual, noisy and chatty event .. focus will be on conversation and movement more that specific details.  more casual and friendly.  Sometimes a little confusing and cumbersome for older guests also.

Sit down will be quieter, more contained and the details will be more noticeable .  Visually more will be noticed and each table will be more contained.  Sometimes a bit on the stuffy side.. Older guests usually like it more.

Hard decision for sure.. but hope this helps... I guess it comes down to your own personality and flavor... good luck!

I've never been to a wedding with stations but I really would like to try it. For me, though, we did seated just because I like being served, rather than balancing a plate in heels. Plus, my parents were paying and they prefered it, but they would have been fine with whatevr. Seated does def limit interactions for people who aren't at the same table.

One thing to consider is space-- if you are at max capacity for your venue, you may not have enough room for people to walk around and get their food plus the space for the actual stations.

I think that you will enjoy your wedding day alot more with a stationed reception.  There is not the long wait for dinner to be served, you get more time to have fun!

I would go with stations as you can give your guests more choices and  gives more of a chnace to mingle

I agree with the poster who mentioned space. I was sold on the stations idea, but as our guest list has grown, I have to take that into consideration. The stations will take up space, and I don't want people having to squeeze past stations where people are crowding around, trying to balance their plate, between tables, to get to their table, etc. Also take into consideration older guests who may have a harder time being up and about for their food, etc. Ultimately I want everyone to be comfortable, and we are going to be doing a plated meal instead.

I went to a wedding in August that had stations and absolutely hated it.  There were 4 different types of food:  roast beef and potatoes, sushi, tacos and seafood casserole.  Everyone was standing in line for the roast beef, and it took forever, just to get up to that station.  The variety of food is food, if there is something linking all of it together, but American, Japanese, Mexican and seafood was a strange mix that everyone at the table I was sitting with commented on with distain.  Maybe this was just a poorly planned stations wedding...but I would NEVER do one myself!

We did stations at our wedding @ Harbor Pointe and we loved it!
