Honeymoon Planning Sadness

Well after I booked the honeymoon last week (8 nights at Sandals Grande in St Lucia) I had a not so fun surprise this week :(

I was already not that thrilled with the travel plans in order to get there from Phoenix - then the airlines went and changed some of the flight times, so we can't make our connections on our original flights, so now we have to either take a red eye Sunday evening and travel for about 5 hours longer than originally planned.  Or stay overnight in either Houston or Miami (and by overnight, I mean we'll be in town for less than 12 hours).

Blah - I'm just frustrated and want to vent.

    What time will you get into St  Lucia if you take the red eye vs. staying in Miami or Houston??

    taking a red eye sucks.. but when you travel east it is the best.  You don't miss out on an entire day flying.  We took the red eye to Ft. Lauderdale before our honeymoon cruise and had a whole extra day there before our cruise left  because we got in at 11 am rather than 10 pm if we would have taken the next morning flight. 

    I don't know if you drink but the best thing you can do before a red eye is drink a few glasses of red wine... take a blanket and a small pillow and snuggle up with your man.  you may not get the best sleep, but you have 8 days of relaxation in a beautiful place!  Just keep thinking about that!!!

    We booked Sandals Regency La Toc St Lucia and the travel issues is what kept us from booking sooner than we did. 

    We are flying out on a red eye Friday night on US Airways PHX to South Carolina.  Then, Saturday we are flying from South Carolina to St Lucia.  We have a similar flight schedule on the return flight.  Leaving St Lucia on a Sat and going to S. Carolina.  And then Sunday we will fly from S. Carolina to PHX.  We have not decided yet if we will get a hotel on the nights we are in S. Carolina yet or just hang out in the airport.

    We are using US Airways b/c my fiance has FF miles so we can fly for free.  But, this being said, we also had to make concessions to use them.  They only have one flight each week (on a Sat morning). so, we are flying out one week after our wedding.

    I guess, I could have just said... your not alone!

    Thanks everyone.  I know - the flights were a big consideration when planning for me as well.  Seems that most of the Caribbean islands were really a pain to get to from here now though - seems like the airlines are really cutting down on flights.

    I think we have a plan though have to work it through the travel agent.  Planning on flying from PHX to Miami straight on Monday morning.  We get to Miami around 3pm then.  We can get a hotel and check out Miami :). Then Tuesday morning we will fly out to St Lucia.  Seems like this flight is the same price as our original ones so hopefully they will let us switch easily.  Also - we are still going to spend 8 nights, so we'll just get an extra day in this way.

    I'm sure we will forget about all the travel while laying on the beach!  :)

    scooter - thanks for the tips on the redeye though.  My main unhappiness with the redeye was that we would actually be flying in the total wrong direction - to Seattle first - then to Miami, so it added quite a bit of actual flying time.

    lcarp - will have to come back and let you know how St Lucia treats us :)   Think we are going to try to get reservations to some of the restaurants at your resort - hear it can be difficult to do though

    Hopefully this new plan will work out - and now I get to do research on miami.

    Glad that it will work out for you!  I would much rather hang in Miami than South Carolina!

    As for the reservations...
     
    From what I have read they recommend that you call the restaurants you want to go to the very first day you get to the resort.  They say if you dont wait till the day of you should have no problems getting into the restaurants at any of the resorts! 

    Defiantly come back and fill us in!  We are planning on taking a day trip to your resort and the Holycon to check them out and hang by the pools for a little change in scenery ;)
