Comic Book Ceremony Program?

My FI is a huge Spiderman fan and we're working on incorporating this into the wedding. I've been trying to figure out where we can cut corners and save money on for the big day. I had always thought ceremony programs weren't that big of a deal but it hit me the other day: why not create our own wedding comic book?

My sister is a graphic designer and can get a great deal on the material for the books. My FI would write the story, which he is really excited about, and we could put the program in there for the ceremony.

I also got another idea for the program. Would it be terribly tacky if we put a puzzle in it or even a mad libs? I also thought it would be great to list the dinner menu and seating chart in the back so everyone has all the information they need for the day.

Is this too much? Would you Knotties be irritated to be given a book? I just want to get as many bases covered as possible without coming off rude.

I love the idea of a comic book, especially since your FI will be writing the story! As a guest, I'd love to have the puzzle and mad libs... I'm a person who likes to do those types of things and gets bored waiting for weddings to start. I probably wouldn't read the dinner menu, and would only look at the seating chart if you're not having escort cards. Good luck!

  • Thank you for your opinions! The really good thing is that we have plenty of time to play around with this before finalizing on anything. My FI actually looked stunned when I suggested this. He's been a lifelong fan of comic books and I'm still learning about all this but he's really appreciating that I'm doing my best to incorporate what's important to him in the wedding. This is going to be so much fun to do! Again thank you!
  • That's so awesome Stage! The pictures will be amazing! And that's so sweet of you to say. He's truly one of the best things in my life and I want to be supportive of him just like he his for me. I haven't been to ComicCon yet but I've done WonderCon three times now and am getting good at helping him build his Amazing Spiderman collection!
  • We are doing something similar, not like a comic book, but definitely not your average program either.  Ours will include a crossword puzzle, which will be easier or harder depending on how well you know us, a time line of our relationship (including a concert we both attended 20 years ago, with different people, we joke that it was our "first date"), descriptions of the home brewed beer my dad is preparing for the reception, etc.  We went to a wedding a few years ago with this kind of program, it was the most fun we've ever had at a wedding, since only knew maybe two people besides the bride and groom.  It was a great conversation starter!

  • My FI is a huge Batman fan! And I would love to make him happy and incorporate something like this into the wedding. I was actually thinking a Batman Groom's Cake and he was happy with that. The program is a really cute idea! I would do it! I am in the same boat, I don't know much about comics but he collects them, so I know how it feels : )  As for the mad libs idea, maybe a crossword would fit better? Thats something normal you see in them. Or you could do something fun like, finish the story at the end on the book. Have pictures there but have the guests write the story?

We are having a rustic wedding, I was trying to think if we could make a comic book program fit into it, but I don't think it will work.

<div>The Batman Groom's Cake sounds fantastic! I'm getting my FI a Spiderman for his gift at the reception. A crossword does sound better than a Mad Libs. Maybe you could have the style of the comic book program be vintage so it could fit in better with your rustic theme? </div>

[QUOTE]Seeing as my invitations are comic books of our own design (he's a comic artist) I am totally fot the comic book program. More people should have comic books in their weddings. At least, I think so.  And don't forget the superhero cuff links!

Thank you! And no worries, I picked up some Spiderman cufflinks for him at WonderCon. He's going to look fantastic!
  • WHOA. Where can I get these cufflinks? Sorry to threadjack, but since both FI and I are huge Marvel fans and FI happens to share his name with Captain America ... he really needs some. I know I can google but if anyone has a preferred vendor? We're hoping to be able to get to NYC Comicon this fall, so I could get them there?

Most likely. I knew that Men's Wearhouse had some for awhile so you may be able to find it online but I just happened to come across a vendor who sold them. Good luck!
