Sandals or No Sandals!?

So we are getting married in August and are really excited about a nice honeymoon. We want to go somewhere where we probably won't be able to go again, meaning that we are willing to spend a little more than we typically would spend on a vacation. We are thinking under $5000 would be ideal. With that said, we are also wanting to stay in a room that feels like a honeymoon, rather than just another hotel room. Maybe something that is ocean front or even a room with 2 separate living areas. 

I think we are leaning more towards, Jamaica or Montego Bag area. Now I am just confused on if Sandals is worth the money or if possibly spending less on something that is not Sandals with a better room is just as nice? Does anyone have opinions or suggestions?

    I think pp just hit that nail on the head.

    DH and I have done both and honestly, we prefer AI. We like knowing that the price is the price and not having to constantly worry about our budget the whole time we are on vacay.

    We love to drink on vacay (not so much any other time as we aren't really partiers) and for us, the $$ would add up fast.

    To put it in perspective, we did an Eastern Caribbean cruise on Carnival (known to be one of the cheapest cruise lines) for 8 days (5 total at sea) we spent over 5k (drinks were NOT cheap plus we did have a suite).

     Our hm in St. Lucia (Sandals Grande) for 6 nights/ 7 days with a concierge level room,flight,excursions and souviners was 5.5k.

     Our 1yr anniversary to Jamaica (7 nights 8 days) (Sandals Negril) with flight, concierge room and excursions was 5k.

    Mexico (AI) with top of the line room,flight and excursions (7 nights 8 days) was 6k

    Key West (non AI) with top of the line room (we were upgraded at no extra cost),flight,activites, bars for 4 nights/5days was over 5k.

    All in all, it really just depends on what your looking to do. DH and I like the combo of relaxing on the beach with lots of drinks and doing a few excursions (1 every other day seems to work well for us).

    You don't need to choose Sandals to have a really special honeymon experience, there are also the Couples Resort which are very nice. If you choose Sandals I would say do not stay at the Montego Bay property. It's not nearly as nice as some of their others. I particularly liked Whitehouse...but perhaps I'm biased because that's where I met DH LOL

    No Sandals!  H and I are not fans of Sandals.  There are other resorts out there that offer better service and accommodations for less.  If you're looking at Montego Bay, in  particular, don't choose Sandals.  We had a pretty crappy stay at Sandals in MoBay a few years back.  The resort isn't great.  I would look into Secrets, Couples, Excellence, Dreams resorts first to compare cost before choosing Sandals.
