Master/Mistress of Ceremonies

Hi everyone!
So I am starting to put together my wedding party, and I was going to ask my aunt and uncle that I am close with to be the Master/Mistress of Ceremonies.

However, Im not sure exactly what they are supposed to do. I havent been to a wedding with master/mistress in a while, has this trend all but died out? 
I thought they were supposed to announce things, but DJs take a lot of this responsibility now anyways. 

If you could give me direction as to Master/Mistress tasks, or how else to include them in my wedding if thats a very dated trend, I'd be forever grateful!

    btw- I am from MI- Grand Rapids area. Its says Lansing cuz I am a MSU student. 
    I know that my mom had her sister (a different one) be an MC and and a different set of aunt and uncle have done it for over a dozen weddings throughout the years. 
    They work as a go-to person on the day of the wedding for the guests with questions and issues...sort of like the wedding planner or venue coordinator..but I am not having a planner. 
    I will keep thinking and see if I can come up with something else.

    Woo Hoo - go Spartans!  We are a Spartan family and I also work in Lansing.  Wolverines.....hmm, taste like chicken.

    I have never been to a wedding without a master of ceremonies.  They are there to welcome the bridal party into the reception, introduce the bridal party, introduce all people giving toasts, announce the cutting of the cake and things of that nature, and keep people entertained while they are eating.  I wouldnt have a wedding without one!
