July 2012 Weddings

so, I hated my hair

I had my trial run on saturday, I brought a bunch of photos of what I was looking for, I want all my hair neatly up with curls with some volume, I want the front of it a bit looser
Like this:

or this:

and what I ended up with was my hair pulled pretty tightly in the front and a bunch of curls pinned around a ponytail at the base of my head, and my veil just looked awkward.  The stylist also trimmed 8-10 inches of my hair off to style it like that (I had been growing it out so that the stylist could cut it to the ideal length for whatever style we decided on.) But now the front is so short that I think I'm pretty limited as to what I can do with it.
I had a really hard time seeing at the salon, and didn't really have an idea what the back looked like until I got home and FI could take a photo, the veil looked weird, but i figured we could find a way to make it work. then about an hour after I left the salon pieces started falling down.  so my deleima now is do i do another trial run and try to be more specific with what I want (the salon is going to charge me for another run) or do i just cross my fingers that we can make necessary changes in a month and my bridesmaids and mother won't let me walk out of the salon with a mess on my head??
It seemed really odd to me that the stylist didn't ask to see my veil and other hair accessories before she started cutting, curling, and pinning.

  • Maybe it is just me, but I would go back to be sure. Especially since it was falling out after about an hour-- that's not good! Maybe bring someone with you who knows what you wan and who can see how it is coming along as the stylist is going so that she can make changes as she goes, instead of waiting until the end to fix it all.

  • I love your inspiration, BTW!

  • I would definitely go back for another trial run. I know it sucks you have to pay for it again, but this is the one day you want to feel beautiful and have yourself looking like you envisioned. You don't want to look at all of your pics and be upset with how your hair looks.

  • It is a little weird that she didn't ask to see the veil and accessories - but don't be afraid to speak up!  Maybe instead of doing another complete trail run, you could just go in a talk with the stylist.  Tell her what you didn't like about the do, and see if she can talk you through what she'll do differently.  If you're still not sure, opt to do another run.
  • I'd go back. I can't believe she didn't ask to see accessories before she started cutting and styling either. That's odd IMO.

  • I would definitely go back for another go through.  Like pp's you don't want to look back and be pissed that you didn't go for another run and the day of your wedding you didn't get the look you wanted.

  • I would go back and tell her that another trial run needs to be done and u r not paying for it. If you brought in pics to show her what u wanted and It looked nothing like it ( and u said u took pics of ur hair after) u can show her they are not the same and u want it done right. That's what u paid her to do. For my prom the lady spent an hour on my hair, it looked like crap, I told her she had to redo it and after another hour it looked great. Even at 18 I believed you should get what you paid for and you my darling did not. This is her job n she should be doing it right.

  • I would go back for another run. At Least explain that what you asked for in the trial wasn't at all what you got and how you originally paid for what you were asking for. Goodluck !!
  • I would go back and demand another trial run. I cannot believe she literally started cutting at your hair before asking to see your accessories. I would be infuriated!!! Most up-do styles like the ones you enjoy require extra hair length to add more volume/curls/etc., so it seems really strange to me that she started cutting at it. I am so sorry!

And I absolutely LOOOVE your second inspiration pic. It's gorgeous.

If your stylist doesn't give you a second trial for free based on all of your complaints (which are pretty severe) I would find another stylist :( Sorry you are going through this !!
